Mass Effect 3 Tweaks

They said it was coming, they just didn't say when.

I'm not really sure if Mass Effect 3 will get a hi-res pack. Mass Effect 2 didn't get one and the textures in that game were waaay worse.

Changing my ATI CCC settings to max everything and changing the .ini file has greatly improved the games visuals for me. I'm satisfied with the way it looks now

I found a tweak that improves textures. Using the Mass Effect 3 Coalesced editor up the ''maxtexturesize'' from 2048 to 4096 (under d3ddrv > d3drenderdevice). It makes the textures look alot sharper.

But the problem is that it makes characters and other textures constantly pop in and out of view. Atleast that's what happens with me. I'm assuming it is because the engine is not built to handle such high resolution textures but perhaps some of you don't have this problem or know a way around it. Let me know please!

You can't up the texture size that high, the source texture files are only 2048. Pushing it higher won't do anything but confuse the engine.

Hey guys I was hoping you could help me out.

I've tried every tweak I could find but can't seem to smooth out some of the lines in the game, and they appear jagged and the jaggedness flickers when I move.

Here's a screenshot. Anyone know what I could do to fix this or is it just that my card isn't good enough?

(I don't have this problem with other games like Witcher 2 or Skyrim...)

Everything is maxed out and I'm using the nvidia inspector tweaks too.

I would use the Nvidia control panel to force AA to 4x at least.

What are your in game settings? Resolution? And what inspector tweaks?

GeForce 450 GTS 1GB

Rez is 1280x1024 (kind of an old monitor)

75hz refresh rate

VSync forced off

And I have this through Nvidia Inspector:

Antialiasing:

4x Multisampling

Transparency Multisampling - Enabled

Transparency Supersampling - 4x Supersampling

Anisotropic:

16x

Negative LOD bias - Clamp

High quality

Ambient Occlusion:

Enabled

High Quality

SLI (not sure what this is?)

Antialiasing - SLI AA - AA_MODE_SELECTOR_SLIAA_ENABLED

I would avoid using the Inspector, also SLI is when you use multiple video cards. If you only have one, don't change SLI settings.

Also try 60hz with virtical sync on.

Sigh. Nothing seems to fix those edges. It's almost unbearable on Normandy, they're everywhere.

I read that only supersampling can fix them, but I only have the option of supersampling for transparency AA in Nvidia Control Panel...

Is 8xCSAA supersampling?

Has anyone had major problems with it crashing at the same spot on various missions. I did from the ashes (took 10 mins not worth the digital collector edition) and it crashed after the first vision then it froze again when starting the mission to save the primarch. Game just black screens then crashes to windows. I know its thread hijacking but i think well i some people are having trouble getting the thing to run why bother farting about with graphics settings first. You know what i mean

I had the game freeze at the EXACT same spot every time. Turns out it was a corrupt install. Had to reinstall the game.

Damn, I really thought it made the textures sharper LOL

I've been browsing several forums in search of high res textures, and while many claim that the game has 4096 textures it is obvious it does not.

I was mistaken when I said that setting it to 4096 would cause issues. There should be no performance issues when changing this value.

It is true that you can set it to 4096, but it will have no visual impact. I have taken numerous comparison screenshots to find out:

HAHAHA, Whoops! That's my mistake.

Thanks alot for taking the time to look into it! It's a shame really cause I bet Bioware does have the higher resolution textures. All they had to do was leave them in the game or provide them to us in a separate download. But I guess that's too much to ask for

But, I am having kind of a huge problem. I'm having massive texture pop-in in the cutscenes. Characters pop in a second too late and sometimes vehicles and whole areas don't show. I tried deleting the ''textureLODsettings'' in the gamersetting config but that didn't change anything. I'm thinking it has to do with the [TextureStreaming] setting in the config. It's at 1500 now but to what should I change it? My gfx card is a hd6970 with 2gb of memory, if that helps. I tried searching on google but there's nothing D:

Try setting your pool size to 900.

I found the game to have a lot of bugs as well. One angle in a cut scene two characters are walking and then stop and stare blankly, change camera angles and they're still walking. I think the game just has bugs; however, I've never had an issue with textures popping in.

Here are my settings, try these but change the pool size!

Ah that seems to have fixed it! Thank you so much!! The poolsize must've been too high for my system.

And yeah ME has quite a few bugs but I can deal with that since it's a pretty big game. The texture popin was ruining everything though lol. I'm glad I can enjoy the game again
