Mach 2 Installation Help

Hi all

I bought a hurricane from Phil a while back and everything was running fast and stable until a couple of weeks ago when suddenly for no real reason my Asus A8N SLI Premium mother board kicked the bucket

So i stripped it all down and sent the board back to Phil and today i received my shiny new nF4 SLI-DR Expert board along with new 1KW PSU, i figured while i had it all apart i would do a bit of upgrading!!

Now down to business i have never installed a Mach II before and would like a step by step guide maybe there is already one somewhere on this site but i can't find one?

The first thing I'm going to do is fit the plate that goes on the back of the board and insulate it with the black sticky stuff Phil gave me with all the spare parts from my original system (excuse my terminology i have no idea what to call half the stuff)

Is there anything i should no before i start?

Also when un-installing the promme i found some white residue on my FX57:O should i put some vaseline over all the pins before i re-insert it into the mother board?

Do you no anything about putting vaseline all over the pins on the FX57?

Hi Stuart, vaseline is fine mate I've used it before myself. It will do the cpu no harm and will help prevent any nasties like that in the future.

My missus will never believe me when i tell her i pinched her vaseline to rub into my PC she already thinks i spend to much time with it :chatownik

I clean the fluff off with a akasa TIM clean and a soft traditional toothbrush (as is not fancy bristles) then let it dry in the airing cupboard for an hour before re-fitting.

Vaseline is a good substitute to dilectric and can be easily cleaned off using electrical contact cleaner.

When you set my system up originally did you raid the DVD drives?

I never even new you could do this until i started trying to put it all back together.

If i connect them via the serial lead do i lose a lot of speed?

I have 2 connectors from the prommie that I'm not sure where to put one is a 2 pin pair of yellow cables and 1 is a 4 pin connector?

the only cables I've connected to the prommie so far is a power connector?

Does anyone no where they go?

The 4 pin one is for the USB connection to the motherboard

The 2 pin one will be the one for the relay, the yellow wire goes to the motherboard where the "power on" header is, there should also be a cable with 2 external wires which goes to the cable coming from the power switch of the case

I have the power SW cable plugged into the prommie but i cant find the power SW pins on the mother board?

it must be late!!!

Can i connect the USB lead to the 1394_2 connectors on the board as I've used both the USB ports?

The power Sw pins on the board are usually in the bottom right of the board and are in 2 rows of about 8 pins with various writing around them

You have to make a choice - it's not essential to have the USB connected unless you want to flash teh firmware, monitor the mach in windows or make changes to the start-up temps/fan speeds.

If you need more USB ports and want the mach connected get a USB2 Hub (£7.99 from ALDI).

Nope you cant, id advise you think what you need most and adjust it as nessary, but id recommend trying to keep teh mach connected via usb

The 1394_2 is the firewire header mate so no you cant plug the USB into that. As for RAID DVD drives I've never heard of that before? I used one IDE cable for Master 0 and 1 IDE cable for Master 1. Basically each device is using its own channel and you wont get access any faster than that.
