mach 2 gt, should i?

Right im really tempted to try phase for the first time

currently run high end water in a pc75, which is dead silent, keeps my winchester 48 spaw at 2.8ghz prime stable

pc75

120.3

AQX w oversized barbs

storm G4 on the winchester

HL on the 6600gt

oversized Tline

3 x panaflow M1's at 7v

tygon r1000

panaflow L1 80mm case fans at 12v

OCZ 520w psu

But i fancy a change from the case and setup (had it 4months now

)

was going to go for a nice and neat pc65 (maybe pc7 tho the front is fugly) and a mach 2 gt, for the gfx card either make a seperate loop or stick a arctic cooler on it

what puts me off is the noise level of a mach 2 gt, my water setup is very quiet, guna guess at 25dba or so?

i have been advised the mach 2 gt is whisper quiet and that puts a smile on me face but im not sure what it will be like compared to this.

Been offered a new unsued mach 2 gt with lian li kit for £400 and im tempted, be about £480 with a pc65?

Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on this

edit another thing, im using a dfi mobo, with the socket where it is will the side panel close? or will i need to dremel the mach case

Wow £400 for a brand new GT - thats a steal I would try and knock him down £20 or so though

im not sure if the mach 2s are quieter than mach 1s but the only time this mach 1 is loud is when it first has to get to its cold temps. then the fans go super slow and everything is peaceful again... they are 120mm fans in there so when they spin fast the make a racket but shift alot of air, and at low rpms they still shift a fair amount and are barely inaudible

I agree, the only reason I got rid of mine was beacuse of my job needed a Mac to do properly. Now I have a new job and the first thing I got my hands on was my old Mach I. Not quite the ol GT but still it's Phase Change, and addictive.

Get it you'll love it!!!

Mach II's are officially rated at 35 db(A) on startup and less at normal speeds. You can control the fans via the software but be warned it is not silent by any means. It will be different to watercooling. But so will the overclock Put it like this I went from phase to water and I was incredibly disappointed

I agree...

I missed out on water and went straight to Phase. I started with a Vapochill PE, then a Mach II GT. Noise was never a problem (its certainly not silent tho).

I agree with Fatty very much.. its sooo addictive and very different to other forms of cooling.. its like a special club. People are more on your wavelength when you Phase change.. its a very niche club of specialist overclockers that go that way.

As you know mike, I have sold my Mach II GT and bought your case + Watercooling. Im very happy it... dead chuffed in fact.. however, as Phil says... there really is nothing like the Mach II GT or LS. So anything less is almost certainly a little dissappointing.

Without phase change you will never have the fastest machine... with it, you can have a whole new level of clocks and performance!!

the only word of warning is potential cold bug probs on the winchester so it might be worth seeing if you can test the cpu first rather than get your hopes up to fine the cpu will not work at those temps

I did like my time with phase but tbh I found it quite a chore to have as an everyday machine/only box machine.

I would say its far from whisper quiet adn you also suffer from the sound of the compressor which is where most of the noise comes from.

Its great fun but requires careful preperation so that you aren't having to do maint on it all the time

I agree Firelord. It would be ok if I could afford a benching only rig but for everyday machine it was too much of a hassle. Especially if you have to move your PC around quite a bit.

If you go for it (which I think you should) if helps to cut a hole in the mobo mounting plate so the CPU heater on the back can be installed/ removed without taking out the mobo. That saves a bit of time if you switch cooling a bit (like me atm)

I agree that phase is a totally different ball-game to most other kinds of computer-owning. Anyone can overclock, but it takes....character? to have phase. I should prob sell mine right now then

cheers for all the advice guys, ui think maybe this time next year ill go for a phase rig, when uni is out the way, no more moving it about etc

all amd 90nm cpus seem to have a cold bug however the temp at which it kicks in seems to be different from core to core, there are some winchesters that are fine on single phase and others that are affected at 0oC. the venice and sandiegos seem to be less affected on average than the winchesters (ie more are fine on single stage coolers) but almost none are fine on cascades except for a few lucky sandiegos.
