Hi
I am considering upgrading my Z87 Gigabyte GA-Z87N-Wifi Motherboard to the Asus Maximus VII Impact. This is specifically to get the M.2 slot for my OS drive. I was reading the Impact Motherboard manual and it states that using the M.2 slot turns the GPU expansion slot from x16 to x8 in lanes. Question is how much does this effect performance? The GPU will still be my EVGA GTX 980 SC and would be water cooled.
I know that going to the Z170 / Skylake platform would make this a moot point. I looked and only one mITX board at this time. Its the EVGA Z170 Stinger. Considering it, but would have to scrap my CPU / Memory. I like my 4790K. If Asus comes out with a Z170 Impact, now that would make it hard for me not to go that way. Also non of the US based E-Tailers seem to have a Skylake processor in stock.
Thanks much in advance
