Looking for advice on my new build

Yea I always like to play around with different sites. I've noticed that Aria have been a little short of stock of various things of late so I went to somewhere else. I couldn't actually find any 1.5v modules when I looked, though I was tired! 1.65v is over spec but is fine for an overclocked RAM voltage on an IB chip but getting 1.5 from somewhere else would be 'safer'.

Genuinely missed the 2011 socket NH-D14, apologies for that one but I hope you get the point - you can fit in a better GPU and SSD for that budget if you shake it around a little.

Rogelius' build is good but I'd want to squeeze in low profile RAM.

Fry his system? Would a bad chip really fry a system? I find that hard to believe. Personally, I'd be inclined to test the 2600k before spending a few hundred to buy another one.

I really doubt that too but the case is I don't have anywhere else to test it on. :|

About RAM M&P I could probably change them -

FROM: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3 PC3-12800(1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.5V
TO: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Low Profile Cerulean Blue, PC3-12800 (1600), CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.5V

Both of them are 1.5V anyway. One question tho what's the different between those two ? Is low profile better than the first ones ?

low profile is good because the nh d14 overhangs the ram so if the ram has giant heatsinks then the nh d14 won't fit.

Im pretty sure all the other brackets (1155, 1156, 775 and AMD stuffs) are included too, if so i wonder why it says only 2011. Although if the D14 without the 2011 bracket is cheaper go for that one anyway

the SE2011 is only for socket 2011.. if you already have 1155/AMD brackets
itll be fine.. the PWM fan function for the P14 and P12 are awesome...
i stuck just the fans into my D14 and let the mobo control fan speed thru
the CPU_FAN header.. nioce...

but it is only for 2011 socket.

So let's say I manage to test if old CPU still works would I need another mobo or i72600k will fit to that one mentioned in my build?

EDIT: Well the guy at computer repairs refused to test CPU because it might fry his mobo. So lets say I'll buy new PSU and try it with my old pc right ? Is there any risk in that ? I mean can something happen to new PSU while I test it with old pc ? Because I now realize that what guy said at computer repairs (that my whole pc is fried) might be not true so I would be saving alot of money here.

OLD BUILD:

CASE: Coolermaster HAF 912
CPU: Intel i7 2600k
CPU COOLING: Asetek 510LC Watercooling (Basiclly H60 just with different name I think)
HDD: Hitachi 1TB SATA2 32MB
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD4
RAM: Kingston DDR3 1333MHz 8gb
GPU: VTX3D HD6870 1GB
PSU: XTREMEGEAR PSU 950W

EDIT 2: Decided to drop Corsair Carbide 500r and stay with the old CM HAF 912. No way of testing CPU now :/ It would save me shitloads of pounds.

Did the tea run right down the length of your motherboard? Is so, I can't imagine that it's usable.

Anyway, you can test the old cpu on your new board when you get it - your 2600k is socket 1155 just like the newer Ivy Bridge chips. So when you buy your new stuff, leave out the new cpu until you test the old one.

Just do a boot test with the absolute minimum components required (cpu, cooler, ram, monitor). Like in this video. If it posts, you'll see a message on your monitor about disk boot failure.

Dunno how much tea did MOBO get because almost everything went right on GPU and than PSU below it.

Decided to got for cheaper GPU in my new build as I will be mainly playing GW2, LoL at the moment.

My new MOBO could fry if the cpu will be bad right ? And is there any chance my Haf 912 case front panel got fried too or Im just worrying too much ?

If you don't want to risk testing the original chip on your new board, maybe take it to a different shop to see if they'll test it for you. Just tell them that your power supply died and you're worried that it damaged your chip but you have no way of testing it yourself. No need to provide too many details. :P

That graphics card will be great for pretty much any game. The 7870 is probably the best card on the market for the price.

Well today I went to another local computer repair shop with just CPU and asked is there any way to test it if it works but he said there is no way unless I bring the full rig (working one). Hard with these IT "specialists" here in UK.
