Logitech Internet Chat Headset

Intro :

In our modern world we do alot more things then just typing on our Personal computers. Alot of people are using programs like Teamspeak, Skype or Ventrilo as telephone over PC. Reason for that ? It doesnt cost anything like a normal telephone would. So now you need the equipment for this PC/Telephone communication. Sure you could buy a "On Desk Microphone" but why schould you bow to speak ? Logitech had an inventive idea (like alot other companies ;) ) and began to produce "headsets". In my Review here i will tzalk about the Logitech ICH. I am using it since 1 year now and i have made alot stress tests with it.

Equipment :

The ICH comes equipment with changeable shells in 3 colors. The changing procedure is easy and fast. What is it for ? See I thought about that question and came to my final solution. I would say it is for Video conferences where people can actually see what you "wear".

A Driver Disk was also included. On there was nothing but a simple driver (In my opinion a waste of valuable disk space but ok).

And dont forget the small handbook which is surprisingly big. on alot pages Logitech tells you how to use the ICH in almost 15 Languages. I think that schould be enough.

Quality :

Something that made a good AND bad impression was the quality. The headset had no errors, sharp edges, unfinished spots or scratches. The cable is very long and stable, i dont think you could break it even if you wanted to.

The bad thing was that the black pads which are on each side began allready after a week to fall off. That was a big "minus" for me. I even lost one of them and had to replace it with another pad from my 2 $ headphones.

Design and Ideas :

The ICH is a very well designed piece of work. It looks good and feels good. With its changeable shells you can even personalize it. For this idea Logitech gets a big hug from me. Big and new things you wont find on the ICH because... yeah... its a headset and a Headset is what it is. Simple.

Performance :

I tested the Headset with the Audigy 2 ZS, the NV soundstorm and the Centrino integrated soundchip. On each of these soundplatforms it performed very well. The input sound from the microphone sounds realitic without any background noises or distorsion. The output sound from the headphose sounds very well on midrange soundlevel which means that you schouldnt turn up the sound to much. Under high volume the Headphones are getting in realy big trouble because the bass is not able to get as high as the high voices (You can imagine how weird it sounds). On the normal "middle Volume" the ICH's sound is extremely well. The basses are "bassy" and the voices of even the highest singers are crisp and clear.

Conclusion :

For Gamers and Internet chater's the Logitech ICH is the perfect choice. Its inexpensive and performs extremely well. For Music and movie freaks the ICH is probably a not so good choice because of its lack of bass in the higher volume ranges. Through its high quality, high performance and good equipment the Logitech ICH can definately be recommended !

Nice review mate. I personally can't stand headset/mic combo's because nothing will ever rival the sound of a pair of Klipsch GMX's pounding away during an intense fire fight in CSS or taking down a viscious dragon in EQ2.

Well I am like PV in that I wanna make sure that I don't irritate the hell outa everyone in my house.

Nice review mate. Those look pretty sweet :D

I use these and they give me a real edge compared to stereo headphones. I will get speakers when I have my own place, but until then - my quality little Zalmons will do me :D

Reps coming your way ;)

well thank you guys.

Yes i totally agree to the statement Frag brought up.

Normally i use my 4.1 Logitech sound system (Z-??? :D )

Sweet.

@ Kempez, are there actually five speakers in those headphones or no? I wonder how it does the centre channel.

I use some Sony StudioMonitors.

The things have 6 speakers in them which means that it can simulate the 5.1surround sound pretty well.

2 for the rear sound, 2 for each side, and two for the front speaker, simulating sound from the front.

The sub aint great admittedly, but the surround effect is pretty much bang on.

CSS has never been the same ;)

well the trust 5.1 sorround headphones had the sub gr8 aswell but im sure they weren't doing real sorround like the zalman ones because of the position of the speakers

I am looking for a headset/mic for voip - must check out a good price. Though mostly I have a normal telephone plugged into my voip router (Fritzbox Fon upgraded to annex A for Uk).
