The Dom GT's can be removed. AMDFTW has the old DDR2 versions that are fixed.

I'm pretty sure the Noctua won't fit over my Doms either. They will be similar to AMDs but his are faster IIRC.

cheers bud! i didnt choose it i seen a good deal with that and the cpu and i got the ram bundled in and got £45 off and that left me the extra pennies to splash on the noctua instead of using the true again

ive taken a pic so far (mothers decided to bugger off with the SD card from the camera!) of me strippin my 9800gt for a dusting out as it was running near fermi hot! and so far ive only really disconnected the stuff from the mobo and my gpu's and the case is gonna need to be cleaned aswell its been a while since thats been done properly and dusty isnt the word there's piles of the stuff ha ha

ill take pics once its all finished tho!

Just had an argument (conversation) about cleaning PCs on another forum. Stay away from using nylon brushes and hoovers. Both are killers of components. Either use canned air (air duster) or blow hard.

ive stripped everything out now and im actually attacking the case with a damp cloth since nothing electrical in there anymore

but blowing hard isnt always ideal either cause u have moisture in your breath

Hooverpipe = plastic. Fluff flying up it = generate ESD. ESD = death to components.

Seen it happen twice. I killed two old Optiplex Dells doing it and a mate of mine lost a considerable system last year doing it. PSU, RAM, GPU. In the end he gave up testing and had to buy a new PC.

This is why they make air dusters (canned compressed air) for that very reason.

I use Windowlene because it has vinegar in it that cuts through the muck. On an empty case of course.

it was really dusty more than anything not reqally filthy nothing the damp cloth solved but i have to say something damn that noctua is piss easy to install!

Also, google around for vacuuming your PC. Watch what you find.

The hilarity is of course the argument I had about this earlier with some friends. One of them sent me some ram last year and charged me S&H. It never worked properly (remember me saying how I was failing Prime with that 9950 and the ram? and only CPU was testing fine yet blends were bombing?).

Well he piped up and said "I vacuum and brush my PC all the time you're talking crap".

I said "remember that ram you gave me?"

He replied

"yeah, does it still work OK?"

I said

"It never worked. One of the chips is fried, probably from ESD"

After which he went very quiet. DO NOT, no matter what the circumstances EVER EVER put a vacuum cleaner pipe in your PC. You WILL regret it.

well like i said i have many times and if you use the brush (horse hair) you get no ESD

Horse hair is hair. Hair creates static (I should know I used to be a hippy and couldn't get in or out of a car without being zapped )

Brushes are fine on fans and anything without silicon chips. It's those that fry with ESD.

just finished my first go at overclocking the i7 got it up to a 10 pass LinX stable @ 3.8ghz with 1.248v and 64 was the hottest it got according to coretemp
