Lightning 290x vs 780 ti classy

ANY 780 Ti will be quicker,cooler etc etc etc.

All non ref 290 and 290x are just as cool and as quiet as the 780Ti's.
If I were you i'd look at benchmarks from various reviews and see which perform best in the games you play.
It's all good having a 780Ti that gives you 150fps in one game but that doesn't really matter when it comes down to a 290 doing 110fps, you simply wouldn't physically notice the difference.
Just look at reviews and benchmarks and get the one that gives you the best bang for the buck.
If it is a 290 i'd go for the Sapphire Tri-X because it is regarded the best 290 baring the Lightning, but you don't need the Lightning unless you OC the balls of of it. If it's a 780Ti the MSI gaming is probably the best.

when you drop 400+ euros on a GPU bang for the buck isn't exactly your main concern. it's not about needing it either.

Just because you have money to drop on a GPU doesn't mean you still don't want to save as much as you can. Not everyone is a retard that buys things that are a waste of money that could be better spent on other things.
You don't need to spend £600+ when you can spend £500 and below for the same thing.
ah, so all of the cool projects on this forum are a waste because they can be done cheaper. now that's enthusiasm.

I asked if he was bothered about saving money or not, I wasn't telling him not to.
Everyones situation is different, if he wants to buy it he will. I gave him advice on both fronts.
At the end of the day the Lightning is a normal 290X, they are not cherry picked cores and they are not guaranteed to OC any better than any other 290X. And unless you are extreme overclocking then it's pretty pointless when all you are going to be using it for is gaming.
Sorry for actually thinking about things and paying attention to how things perform given the situation.
There is a difference between buying something because you just want the best or buying something because you want what will be best for you based on your situation.

I'm not losing my temper, I ain't even mad.
And I seem to remember many post by you in Vlad's threads about the kingpin telling him how stupid he was for buying it. Yet here we are in a thread with me giving someone advice about what card to buy with you telling me the best thing isn't necessarily the best bang for buck.
I give people advice based on my knowledge. If he wants to buy a card based on the fact he wants the best then there is nothing wrong in that but if he wants the best card for his situation then that is what my advice was aimed at.
I'm not telling him to do something or not to do it, I was giving him options.
i told him it was stupid to not acknowledge that the card doesn't perform any better. there is a difference between buying something that you prefer and being delusional. someone who buys a titan knows as well that it won't improve his performance in games, i myself spent 50 euros extra on my 770 because i liked the cooler better and because 4GB of RAM gives me some clearance, still i am aware that it won't make any measurable difference. i am not even playing games which push the GPU over 60% load.
you went ahead and called everyone who doesn't put price/performance on top priority a retard, i would call that loosing your temper because i am pretty sure you didn't think that all the way through.
anyways, let's put this behind us. cba to fight on the internet today.

Personally any GPU i buy i always look for a aftermarket cooler on, for ease of cleaning with dust etc... so if its £20 so be it. Stock coolers i've found to be usually very diffucult to get to/clean if you can at all (from personal experience)

i still need to get used to people calling cigarettes fags. it's so weird for a non native speaker.
i favor whatever looks the best, at the moment i prefer the titan cooler over any aftermarket cooler. of course there are limits, if the titan cooler would perform like the 290x ref cooler i of course wouldn't buy one.
I'm planning on oc'ing. But I'm not really benching I just want good performance. Money is not an issue but I don't mind saving money either if I can. I game at 1440p 110 fps which is why the 290x's vram seems appealing. That said I will be sli/xfiring down the line, overclocking and watercooling.

Reference 780ti then, easy for waterblocks and SLI.
@1440p you won't need anymore than the 3gb that the 780ti comes with.

Comes with a factory overclock and a good warranty. IIRC EVGA don't have a problem with people fitting waterblocks to their cards.
