Lighting without flooding

I'm in the process of designing my new build and I'm at the aesthetic lighting part of the design. I have a few ideas, but I'm stumped on how to do the lighting of the main chamber. I would like to show off the interesting parts of the case, but I don't want to flood the entire chamber with light. See the example below:

As such, I am asking the community for any suggestions or techniques they've come across.

My current ideas are to sparsely 'highlight' specific hardware with backlighting. For example, the XSPC Raystorm has LED holes to backlight it.

Another idea is to use white area light to highlight features such as sleeving. This would probably need to be dim and/or dispursed with a filter or it would wash out the other colors. What specific kinds of lighting would you guys suggest for something like this? Maybe a filtered led or cold cathode?

Is there a way to highlight tubes other than UV? (Mostly because I would like a red theme and RED UV usually comes out pink)

If you guys have any other suggestions or techniques, please feel free to share.

Thanks

Put white LED strips in.
The white will bring out the colour and highlight what you want without flooding it red.
Just dont do it if you have LED fans because this happens:

Excluding the LED fans though - you can probably see this brings out the colour of the braided cables, graphics pcb etc...

Not the best picture as thats from my phone but in real life if doesnt overglow everything and it does look good - excluding the fan :)

That's a little bright, but I get the idea. Maybe I could use strips that aren't as bright or filters. What brand are those?

They really arent that bright - it's the camera. As long as you aren't looking directly at them they dont glare at all. I've tried to take better pictures but it's the same. They're honestly perfect in use though.
You could reduce the voltage to 7v I believe. That should dim them.

They're Bitfenix Alchemy - the connect ones - don't bother with the Aquas
