Lets not let Tom's Hardware take us without a fight.

I wanted to try and rally some troops against the impending drop in rank the team (Folding - Redline @ OC3D) is about to take. Tom's Hardware is about to knock us down to 46th place :)

Their team is gaining on us by about 2 million points per day so I don't think we can hold out for ever. But it would be good for team spirit if we can at least make them work for that spot.

Anyone up for the challenge?

If you are a first time folder, if I'm not on, someone around here will be able to help you set up.

And if you have an AMD card, esp 79xx, they are now good for some (amazing) folding goodness thanks to the people at Stanford.

Me rejoining the team ought to be some sort of boost for the team. After all 600k PPD are coming from my end. It's better than it was before the summer brake. I mean the team effort. Instead of working on a 1 million PPD result, we can really start thinking of 2 million being a permanent figure. After all stevehat1 and myself together crunch over the 1 million PPD. The 2 million should be really the goal at this point. which was achieved now 2 days in a row.

Yeah, I actually thought it was quite mean of you to come back folding at the same time I did to make my 80k(ish) PPD look rather pathetic :p

As a long term thing I can't keep both of my machines running at 100% but for the next few days I should be able to put out between 150k to 240k depending on work units and what not.

Unfortunately with our current resurgence Tom's still going to catch us at over 1 million a day. That's which I wanted to try and rally some troops. We are only a small team, but we have heart ^_^

I don't think 80k PPD is pathetic, it's rather amazing. I remember using a Core i7 980X @ 4.4 GHz and 3x GTX480 + GTX460 pulling 1100W from the wall to hit 90k PPD. Anything beyond 100k PPD is pretty damn impressive.

But no contribution is pathetic. Remember everything counts.

I don't think it's fair to compare to my folding farm. Like I said 100k PPD is amazing by itself and most people who fold more than 300k PPD do use multiple computers. My folding farm is a really big exception. But it was build for the F@H purpose and I spend over 3500 Euro on that thing. One year ago it was pretty much the most ultimate thing you could get, and now nobody wants it since the big AMD boost in GPU PPD.

I would honestly prefer that I would have sold it. Now my 900D build is pretty much on hold till I get rid of this thing - or till I save up enough to start putting hardware into the 900D.

Anyway, back to topic. As long as we can maintain a 2 million PPD rating I think we're doing pretty good. Some people are still on summerbrake as it might be too hot to fold. But as the weather cools down in the northern hemisphere, more people will start folding ;) Just keep the spirit up and that will do...

A nice challenge for OC3D members.

I'm sure there is enough GPU power from fourm members to hit an easy 5 million PPD and this is only assuming part time participation from many...

Is OC3D up for the challenge, the current folders are not going to able fend off the threat from Tom's we will need help from current non folding members to make this happen.

My comment really was meant as tong in cheek. Your right, any contribution counts and is welcome.

As of today my 680 is folding again. One of my 7950s keeps throttling down, looks like I'll have to play with the clocks on it.

Well I suppose I could spare a few cores/threads again...

My 690 gets too loud folding so I don't really want to run that, but the processor alone should still get a fair amount of PPD I hope!

Sure i'd be up for helping out iv'e never done any folding before but have read up about it a few times, i also have a 7770 so should be able to use that correct? just tell me what i need to start and i will help :)

Look at the sticky thread in the folding forum :) tells you everything you need to know mate.

Ah i see i will set that up and get folding :)

Installed joined the team, the program automatically created the slots for the CPU and GPU the CPU seems to be folding fine but the GPU said's it is paused:waiting for idle with a yellow box, i've tried clicking fold and it doesn't change any ideas??

Yeah set up pass key that's all good and i just figured out that i needed to put the slider to full for the GPU to kick in

All set-up and working I'm now part of the team :)

The new V7 client pretty much sets it's self up. You can find it at:

http://folding.stanford.edu/

beyond the software you will want to set up a passkey to get the quick return bonus points.

I think the new stanford site pretty much takes you through it step by step though.

On the advance control panel, there is a slider towards the top, slide that all the way to full/maximum/what-ever-is-right-most and it should fold on both CPU and GPU

Currently folding as much as I can, trying to recruit people and show them what a good cause it is, but some people can't see reason even if it slaps them in the face.

/D

if you can give me a foolproof/first-timer-proof way to set this up on a mac pro I'll leave my mac on folding for you while i'm not working on it.

dual quad core xeon jobby if that helps?

If i miss your reply, PM me. I'll do what I can to help lads.

Go here and download the client. I've not yet folded using OSX, but they do make a client and I'd imagine it's similar to the Windows client.

After the client is installed it will ask you to enter a username and team. You can put anything for the username and use 98860 for the team. Most people stick with their forum account name. You will also want to get a passkey.

Welcome aboard!

Edit: Do let us know how it goes on OSX and what kind of PPD you are getting. I doubt many fold using a Mac so I'd like to see how it compares.

Okay she's off. Will update you on numbers, soon as I can.

It's saying 21k~30k per day as it stands so far.

It'll fluctuate up and down for a few hours/days and then begin to settle a little more - although still based on work units it will be a little erratic.

My 3960x is pulling around 40k PPD now it's settled a little.

Well I could run my PC (3930k and two 580's) but I'm not sure the mrs would appreciate the electric bill that will undoubtedly come in :(

Edit: looks like my first unit just went in :)

Edit2: Btw, did they turn off all the PS3 Folding stuff?

They turned off ps3 folding a while back, they achieved the objective they set out to do on it I think. They didn't get much PPD anyway from what I remember.
