LOL! 5 hours to go 140 miles?!?!? Is it that bad to travel around England? Thats a 2 hour trip here in the states. Is traffic that bad?

Bank holiday weekend on a Friday at around the time people would be let off work. I also had to go through a toll booth which didn't help congestion either :)
 
Wow! That wouldve driven me insane as well. A long road trip is one thing but sitting in a car all day for a SHORT road trip would make me batty.
 
Those trips can get crazy even here in the states. I worked for Motorola in the suburbs of Chicago 126 miles from where I live now. I got out of work 10 minutes early to beat the rush and was on my way to Michigan (here where I am now) for the holiday weekend and in the distance I could suddenly see a large fire and smoke. On the radio right away they were saying a jet crashed at O'Hare Airport. My 2 hour drive to Michigan ended up taking 6 hours. All traffic was routed away from the airport area and rush hour around Chicago was bad enough. I was stopped for a couple hours at one time and barely moved most of the time. Oh yeah, it was a terribly hot day and I was stopped on the toll road and nearly rear-ended by a Chevy Blazer, the driver not paying attention the cars were not moving and I had my emergency flashers on. Nearly was a fight on the highway when a couple people went after the stupid driver. Here I was the one that just got missed, he slid past me skidding on the shoulder, and I was out of my car stopping people from beating the guy.

WOW, this is freaky I think of it now, it was 34 years ago today the crash happened...also 42 years plus 2 days ago today I was walking home from my school bus stop and my mum met me to tell me my dad had just died:
