Laptop for mum...

Hi,
My mum's decided she wants a new laptop to replace her current 2 year old netbook. She now has to do web-conferencing and so she believes she needs a large screen - and after a look in PC world, she was pretty set on getting a 17'' laptop.
However, I kind of think you pay a massive premium for a 17inch decent spec laptop these days. Considering this can be bought for £568:

The budget is a flexible £700 - but I think that should include an SSD, so lets say a flexible £600.

This will probably need to last a few years - the use will be general use, a lot of word documents, powerpoints and emails really - but I still think it should be reasonably high spec as the budget is there and as said she will be using it for a few years to come.

So - Can you lot recommend a 17inch laptop that in anyway would compare to the bargin ACER from ebuyer?

Thanks! :)

http://www.ebuyer.com/364003-acer-travelmate-7750-laptop-nx-v3pek-004 if your looking for a 17 inch laptop, here is one. It doesn't have the i7 it has an i5 but for what she wants to do it should be fine and if she really needs more than 4GB Of ram and an SSD you can always upgrade them.

But yeah like you said you do pay a little premium for a 17 inch and if I was personally buying it I'd get the 15 inch one you linked but she wants a 17 inch and that is the closest priced 17 inch laptop.

Here is a Ram Kit if she needs more than 4GB http://www.ebuyer.com/370059-corsair-8gb-ddr31600mhz-vengeance-laptop-memory-cmsx8gx3m2a1600c9 I used the 16gb kit in my laptop at 1866mhz but I love the Corsair Vengeance laptop ram <3.

you should probably re-assure her that 15.6 inches is fine and then you could get that Acer one and throwa SSD and maybe some more RAM in it but I'll have a look now for ye

I have to agree with that.

@Fractal and Seumas - Agreed they are good laptops but considering the 15.6'' one is an all round better spec (better processor and dedicated gpu) it seems silly to be paying more for an extra 2 inches on the screen IMO.

For Fractal - http://www.ebuyer.com/312913-acer-aspire-5750g-laptop-lx-rxl02-060

That's the same specs just with a smaller screen - So she'd actually be paying £136.59 for the 2 inch bigger screen. Could buy the cheaper laptop and get my 23inch iiyama IPS monitor and still be cheaper :/
Just feels a ridiculous premium for 2inches

Yeah that's why I said id go for the 15 inches, but for £600 on ebuyer that was the closest price for a laptop. XP

Have a look in pc world at the samsungs. They are cheaper than any online store for some models because pcworld try to make the profits on norton and the insurance. I got a ultrabook for £100 cheaper than ebuyer at pc world.
