LAN/ Ethernet Card query....

Hey guys, I have a query. Will installing a lan card in my current rig disable its onboard ethernet port?? Or can I use them both simultaneously as dual lan....My current onboard lan is realtek 10/100 Mbps and I was planning to buy a lan card with 1000 Mbps support. Also how do I find if my pci slot supports speeds upto 1000Mbps???

It won't disable your onboard LAN
