Kraken X61 Fitting and Temps

Hi I have just installed a new Kraken X61 on to my Asus Z170-A MB.

I was wondering about tightening down as people say don;t tighten too much but from what I can tell the screws hit the bottom and cannot tighten anymore anyway is this normal.

I am using the standoffs that are tall with the same size thread on each end and not the AMD as they are in a separate bag.

I have to take off and put back on so cleaned with 99.9% alcohol and put some mx-4 paste on and put back on but temps seems to be higher than others with this cooler.

Running Prime95 Max temp reaches 79C with min 18C but at idle seems to be about 26C, this is off the Kraken software.

Any advice will be welcome thanks.

Temps do seem a tad on the high side. Best to tighten each screw without a screwdriver. Just use your hands and do it in a cross formation little at a time.

Have you checked what voltages your M/B is pumping into your CPU? As that could also be the reason. Any OC applied?

Think My Kraken X31 hasn't gone higher than about 61 on full load and thats cooling an overclocked 5820K.

If I get some bacon and an egg, think we can cook it? xD

I have tightened down but won't go any further even with a screwdriver, almost as if the screw has hit the bottom of the standoff thread and can't go any further.

I did have a OC but brought it back to stock.

I have ordered some more paste so will take off clean and try again.

Doubt you'll see much difference. The newer versions of Prime 95 tends to cause CPU's run really hot. If you use it, make sure you use below version 28.x to be on the safe side. But then again Skylake CPU's have just like its two predecessors bad thermal paste between the heat spreader and the chip. So getting in the range of 75-85 degrees with Prime95 is to expected. A better test would be to test with some of the more demanding games.

For a reference I use Prime 95 v27.9 Build 1.

Cant really say about temps until you tell us what the volts are dude.

Auto doesnt mean stock btw. Means adaptive.

Do you want the volts when Prime95 is running or just as is.

Thanks

If you have not manually set them in the BIOS dude I would really suggest you do. Either with an adaptive set up or a static voltage.

AUTO will always be significantly higher than required

What fans? How fast are they running? Is the pump reporting correctly? What CPU do you have? Did you use an entire tube of thermal paste? How is the radiator positioned in the case?

Back to the mounting itself though, when you fitted the backplate and then installed the standoffs was it tight or really lose? Motherboard PCB thickness can vary and the Asetek mounts aren't idea at accommodating for that. A small washer underneath the thumbscrew or between the backplate and motherboard may resolve everything. You just need to be sure everything else is right before making changes as its rarely a problem. Using a screwdriver will not help you get a good application, cross tightening gently with your fingers will be enough if everything is correct.

What do I set it to CPU-Z is saying I am at 1.376v with no load or overclocking so do I set it to that and then it will always use that unless I start overclocking?
