Kindly Help me Choose

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to get some advice on the following as I have no idea regarding this and it would be very kind of you guys if you can help me choose -

I have to decide between the following 2 Graphics Cards, to replace my current XFX 6600 GT 256 Mb and I dont have any other choices... I dont have any idea on which is better - Please help me choose the right one -

XFX GF 8500 GT - 512 Mb

XFX GF 8600 GT - 256 Mb

I've been told that the later is better, but with a 256 Mb, is it still better than the 512 Mb 8500GT ?

XFX GF 8500 GT - 512 Mb is more affordable to me, but I dont want to make a hasty decision.... Please Help Me....

My main focus is for gaming, kindly help me choose from the above.

The Other specs of my PC are -

Core 2 Duo Quad

Intel DG33 FBS Motherboard

2GB DDR2 (800 Mhz)

160 BG SATA Harddisk

XFX 6600 GT

8600gt easily.. for gaming.. sure you cant save abit moree for an 8600GTS or even and 8800GTS.. seems a shame when u have a quad ...

But anyway.. yeh out of those two.. 8600GT

Out of the two 8600 is far superior than the 8500. As mentioned above, if I were you I'd try and get an 8600gts or even better 8800gts.

Sorry if I sound too ignorant or foolish, and sorry for asking this again (kindly excuse me) - I really dont understand the tech terms, but I want to take the right decision...

Should I just go for the 8600 GT 256 Mb then ? Actually the price difference between the 2 is also very large in my currency (Indian Rupees) and I just want to re-confirm -

The 8500 GT with a 512 MB is about "5000 (in my currency) cheaper" than the 8600 GT with a 256 Mb. So will the difference be worth the extra cost - I mean will I be able to still play the games that require 512Mb onboard memory ?

Finally, will 8600GT with a 256 Mb be REALLY better than the 8500GT with 512 Mb ? (For gaming that is..) even with less RAM ?

Sorry again for the above question... Kindly help me so that I can go and get the card....

Shall I finalize the 8600GT - 256 Mb itself ? or will it be wiser to wait for 8600GT with a 512Mb (just incase its available...) ?

Definately the 8600GT the preformance difference is huge between the two the 8500 is more for HTCP.. The 256MB extra RAM would be nice on the 8600gt but 256MB is fine.

5000 rupees = £60. that is quite a big difference, but still if you want to do gaming the 8500 is a no go. The memory is insignificant compared with other facters the 8600 possess core clock, architecture, etc..

If you want to game then the 8600 series is an absolute minimum. Unless you're running games at a high resolution such as 1650x1080 then 256mb is generally fine. Even then the 512mb on the 8500 is just pointless.

Use THIS as your comparison guide. I have selected the two cards with the correct ram for each, but you can select games and compare them in different resolutions.
