what do people think of this as a keyboard... is it something that i shouldn't buy or what are your opinions.

My bro has this board. He's seems pretty happy with it after nearly a year.
Pros:
- Solid build design (for it's price range)
- Comfortable (with extended wrist rest)
- Strong backlighting (with scroll wheel for variable setting)
- Volume scroll wheel (very handy)
- Mic/Headphone pass through
- USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports.
- Good rubber feet to prevent movement while using it.
- Array of macro keys.
As for any cons, they would be based on personal preference. For example (not my views) not a fan of MX Reds, dislike the placement of the macro keys, etc.
What is it that you like about this particular keyboard?

well to be honest, i want a blue back lit keyboard that is mechanical and wired, but it would be my first mechanical keyboard so don't know how i like each of the cherry switches yet...
I also like the price range, i am using a keyboard that is over 4 years old at the moment, not geared for gaming or anything, its a Microsoft comfort or something, i wasn't around when it was bought so not sure, so i need a new one, and this is cheap and has everything i need, i also need a mouse but i think i have it covered.
what is it about cherry red's that you don't like?

I think it's definitely a good board as a first mech due to the fact that it has no irritating unique features (for example, no discrete arrow keys) so it would be hard for you to not like it.
MX Reds generally appeal to everyone, unlike say blues as the audible click can be annoying to some making it less of a gamble if you're unable to get down to a store to try for yourself.
Sorry, when I mentioned the cons I was giving examples of personal preferences. I use MX Reds myself, so I like them.
ok, i think i will go with that then. do you have any recommendations on mice to start off with that are not to expensive for FPS gaming.

Like I said earlier, I prefer MX Blues so that would be a con for me. And I agree that the macro keys are in a weird place. Not sure Id like that. I have big hands but short fingers and its already a little awkward for me to reach up and hit the function keys as it is so cant imagine how much more cumbersome it would be to have to reach up one more level. Granted I only use 1 or 2 macros and in only a handful of games but still.
