Is this a good choice?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get ram for my sr2 build, its been a while since I've built a new rig so choosing ram is a bit daunting for me as there are many to choose from

I have looked at the Dominator Platinum 8GB DDR3 1866 MHz Kit. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this?

I was previously looking at the 2133mhz kits but then i realized 1866mhz would be a more suitable choice in terms of price but still with decent performance.

I'll be looking to get the ram part of the build sorted by January 2013.

What mobo and cpu is it you have as i know ivy loves the higher mhz ram

Its a Evga SR2 with 2 x E5645 hex core xeons 2.4ghz

My understanding with Xeons is that they don't/can't use memory above 1600. Pretty sure I read that somewhere recently.

I can say that RAM frequency above 1866 is not going to show much improvement in day to day tasks, and the price can get really stupid for some kits. Unless you want to break some Xeon overclocking records, there really is more to gain if you get a better GPU or a second one.

Thanks for the reply, decided to get the 1866mhz rather than the 2133mhz which will save me around £100
