Hello fellow members.

In a month (or so) i'll buy a new CPU and a motherboard for it. But I've come to the point were I'm getting very confused whether I should go for a x79-board and a 3930k, or a z68-board and a 2600k. Is there a relatively large benifit from buying the newer x79, contrarry to the z68.

I'm especially thinking about the "longlivity" of the technologies, because I am not expecting another motrheboard/cpu upgrade in a near future. Will PCI-e 3.0 be important when considering this purchase?

To sum up. If YOU should buy a new system in the upper-mainstream-range. What would you purchase?

Sorry for the lack of better gramma. I'm from Denmark

It depends on what your current and future needs are. For general computing and gaming you will be fine with a 2500K. The SB-E stuff is massive overkill for most people. If you are the sort of person that must have the very best and the money is burning a whole in your pocket then SB-E is for you otherwise you'll be happy with the 2500K.

If you buy a Gen3 board that supports 22nm cpu, you can always upgrade to an Ivy Bridge chip in the future.

I would take a Z68 setup with a 2600K cpu SB-E is overkill if you just want a good gaming pc.
