Internet not working after reinstalling Windows 7

that sounds rather weird. so you're saying that if you don't turn on your gaming rig, internet connection on your laptop is fine?

and both are connected with ethernet cables to the same switch/router?

assuming that all the wiring and basic networking is correct:

sounds to me like something on your gaming rig could be demanding too much of your internet connection (thinking about a trojan horse or something) to check that, use a windows command shell and type (on your gaming rig) and type "netstat -an". it will show you your active connections using tcp and udp protocol.

the result looks something like that:

Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State

TCP 0.0.0.0:135 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:445 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:5357 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:49152 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:49153 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:49154 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:49155 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:49156 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 0.0.0.0:50000 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 127.0.0.1:12080 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

TCP 127.0.0.1:12110 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

......

not using any application that obviously connects to the internet, how many of those entrys do you see that have a foreign address (means NOT 0.0.0.0:0 or 127.0.0.1:xy) and say in state "established" or "listening"?. Do you also use your network for filesharing between your computers? if yes, how's that coming?

i am absoultely sure that i just raised more questions than i answered, but i feel we're getting somewhere with this :-) thanks for your patience and tolerance anyway :-)

Edit: By the way, did you check your bandwidth ? what is your rated download speed and what's the real thing right now (tip: start to download something from http://mirror.switch.ch - very well connected public ftp server (linux images and stuff), directly attached to switzerland's primary internet backbone).

Both the connections are called Local Area Connection number something. And another thing to inform about, when I use my gaming PC which got the internet issues, the internet on my laptop goes mad as well. It becomes so slow it hangs up on Skype and such.

You motherboard have 2 gbps LAN connections. So you have 2 Local Area Connection. In which port your current RJ-45 is plugged into? First or second one?

And its xompletely wired to hear that internet on your laptop is working, but in your desktop it is not.

May be you should also see the IP of your laptop & manually assign IP of same class to your PC.

Let me explain what's up. The internet on my laptop is NOT fine when I turn on my gaming rig. It goes from 25mb/s to 0,5mb/s. That's on my laptop. But when the gaming rig is off it got it's usual 25mb/s connection. And my gaming rig got a completely fresh Windows 7 without anything installed on it besides motherboard drivers. Can Trojan viruses effect a fresh Windows if it's in the Windows.old folder? Also, my laptop is using a wireless connection, but the ethernet cable works fine on my laptop as well.

What else?... Well I've tried reinstalling Windows 7 twice. When I do the ping check it retrives none of the packages. I've tried setting a new IP and all that, but that didn't help. I have not tried resetting my router, tho. I'll try that if you want me to. Was this of any help?

I'll try what you said now. Hold on like 5 minutes and I'll post the results.

EDIT: What the hell!? It's suddenly working now! YES! About time! Just in time for my new graphics card as well! I'm getting it tomorrow or the day after that.

But I haven't done ANY changes since last time I posted something on here. I have no idea how it fixed itself, but I'm not complaining!

Ah! good to know your problem is solved.
