my rig is

intel core 2 duo e8400

Sapphire HD6870

ep45-ds4p gigabyte motherboard

gigabyte 550W powersupply

4x2GB Kingston DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz

3 harddrive

7 case fan (1x140mm, 3x120mm, 1x230mm, 2x200mm)

coolermaster tx3 cpu cooler

running 2 monitors

windows 7 ultimate 64bit

questions:

1: when i overclock my computer won't boot to bios, it starts and shuts down before can come up. why? powersupply not large enough?

2: is my powersupply sufficient?

3: is my rig sufficient enough? should i upgrade? or should i build a whole new one?

4: should i just stick with my rig?

5: is my cpu bottlenecking my graphics card? how do i tell? my cpu is running at 100% when i'm playing games.

6: i can't oc cause it won't go pass bios when i try.

cause playing bf3 really lags sometimes even cod mw2 & mw3

1. I think the cause of the computer failing to post is due to an overly optimistic overclock.

2. Yes 550W should be more than enough

3. The graphics card should be enough, so I guess the cause of your problems is the CPU and I wouldn't recommend upgrading it to a better LGA775 CPU. You would be better of getting a 1155 motherboard and CPU.

4. If you can't play the games you want to play in comfort then you should upgrade imho.

5. Close all your background programs and try to play the games, if it is running on 100% load, it would the bottleneck, because a HD6870 should be able to run BF3 on Medium.

6. How are you overclocking your CPU? What is your target clock speed, voltages etc.

I have a similar system (lower spec)

and play BF3 on high textures at 50fps (1920x1080)

I clicked on this thread as I got given a e8400 before christmas but haven't tried it yet

(hoping for 4ghz+ on water)

Do you notice any difference in fps if you unplug one of the monitors? (I noticed some weird stuff on catalyst drivers when I have 2 monitors plugged in

Have you changed the VCore of the CPU etc?

Also maybe the RAM timings or divider (depends on RAM I guess)
