I'm in a pickle

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment. I'm having trouble deciding on what to upgrade, I really want to upgrade my graphics card and I'd like to upgrade my cpu.

I've heard (from PCPP) that Dual core CPU's aren't really much use for games yet cause games only utilise one core.

So.. Is it worth me upgrading my few month old 3700+ to a Intel D 805? Which means I have to buy a new board as well (duh) so I was thinkin of gettin a Sli board and gettin one 7600GT.

So:

Should I, keep the 3700 and buy a Zalman cooler (to overclock the cpu further) and a new graphics card?

buy a new pentium 805? (which means new board)and buy a 7600GT?

BTW I've got a budget of AUD $400 (max would be $500)

400AUD = 162.77GBP

Personally i'd buy a Zalman and a spend the rest on a graphics card.

The 805 is a nice chip, but in terms of gaming, you'd need to clock it pretty high in order to compete with an overclocked 3700.

Also, as you may already know the 805 chip is socket 775, which in most cases means DDR2 - there are some DDR1 boards around that support the chip, but none are that good.

Yeah I think im goin to do that, if I was to get dual core, I'd probably spend that bit extra and go for a X2, I just prefer AMD.

I was considering getting a Big Typhoon but after seeing how BIG it really is I think I will just go for the Zalman CNP somethin somethin, the one with the bloo led, unfortunately I'm not sure if its compatible with my motherboard, on the list of compatible motherboards it has the A8V-E and the A8V-E Deluxe but no A8V-E SE :(

Well, considering that I have this case and the Soprano has larger specs, I'd say yes. I hope that 90mm fan is over your processor? It'll help quite a bit with the BT's performance. If not, I'd also possibly suggest the Scythe Ninja.

Stick with AMD for games mate. If you want to go dual core save up lots more and get a X2 3800. From my experiance of dual core it is worth it if you run things in the background. is you 3700 939? what core?

I would have thought a 7600GT would also do you fine.

id get a Zalman 9500, or a thermalright xp-90c or xp-120 and oc ur 3700, you should be able to hit 2.8 easy with the 3700. then id get a 7900GT and oc it to 600/800(1600).

400 AUD = 304 US. u can buy a 7900GT for 280, and a thermalright xp-120 for like 40 his max was 500 AUD which around 380 US, which would be 450 AUD. idk but are prices more expensive in UK and Australia? if so just get a 7900gt, ull gain more performance off the gpu. with stock hs you can oc easy to 2.4 equvilent to a 4000. just my two cents

I just got me a 7600GT and i am soooo loving it. Even gaming the baby does not even get above 52 c with stock cooling :)

If your on a budget get the card and the HS, save your money and get yourself a nice celly 65 nm cpu when they come out :)

Prices are higher here and from another thread ive head even higher in the land of aus. And if he says budget of $400 stick to it. Pushing people over there limits is kemps job:rolleyes:

Yes, my 3700+ is 939, its a San Diego core.

I'm looking to get a XFX 7600GT I was looking at the 7900's and I saw the Albatron 7900GT that was a bit past my budget, had a look and realised my X800GTO is probably faster lol.

You should be able to get a good overclock out of a SanDiego core, WC's is at 3Ghz i belive, with decent cooling of corse.

And i hope your joking. Your X800 is NOT faster than any working 7900, enless you managed to graft 4 together with no more nails or something. XFX are good and imho a 7600GT from them would be a wise choise.
