Morning all,

Got a little problem im trying to solve....

I can get my i7 920 to 4.5ghz quite easy with 1.43v on the core and it is stable with temps mid to high 70s full load in my day to day applications..

I would like to get stable on Intel Burn Test also but every time I run it as soon as the temp hits 80c the multiplier drops to x20 from x21

I know 80c is quite high but I used to have an old C0 920 that would hit 95c before it started to throttle and drop the multiplier.

Is there any way to disable this throttling or have I just got a bad chip ??

You could disable cpu thermal monitor in bios, but there will be no safety when temps rise.

I wouldnt call an i7-920 at 4.5ghz a bad chip

Cheers KB, I have just disabled CPU TM Function in the bios but the cpu still throttles when it hits 80c ???

Im really jealous of you guys with your 2600k's and wanna be in that 4.5ghz club

The 920 is on a H100 by the way and I have just lapped the cpu this morning too..

Ok, figured out the problem, CPU TM Function on/off is nonfunctional in the bios of all P6T Boards therefore even when disabled it is still enabled...

Solution -

Crossflashed the P6T SE board to P6T Deluxe Engineering Bios with afudos and voila,,, CPU TM is now functioning... Tested with 1.475v @ 4.5ghz and no throttling occurs, temps rise freely to 87c

Unfotunately CPU is not stable @ 4.5 ghz in intel cpu burn so im gonna stick @ 4.2ghz

Had to trawl through lot of old threads for the solution but got there in the end.

Now I have the P6T Deluxe Bios I also have SLI Compatibility (both boards are identical apart from a secondary marvell controller on the Deluxe)

Well done, finding a good solution to your problem

4.2ghz is a nice oc for an i7-9xx.I have had i7-950 that wouldnt/couldnt run more than 4.0ghz.
