i5 2500K

So i was helping out a bud with overclocking today, and since i have never overclocked a SB chip i just wanted to make sure that everything is copacetic.

i5 2500K @ 4.6 Ghz

1.272 volts according to cpuz when prime is running.

prime 95 temps after 30 mins were 62 degrees on a D14.

Are those low or high volts for 4.6 Ghz?

Yep lookin good, 1.38v I think is the recommended max for a 24/7 o.c. so think you've got a bit of headroom to play with there.

my 2500k @4,59 is @1.330v.

Is this ok ?, or its to much ?

Here in cpu-z shows only 1.28v but jumps @1.328v.

Also the BUS is @102 so the mem jumps @1905MHz.

The mem its G.Skill Sniper 1866MHz

I would leave the BCLK at the default of 100. Sandy Bridge is all about the multi. 1.33v for 4.6 Ghz is not bad. Have you set your settings manually, because adjusting the BCLK is not really that preferable, as far as I know.

Hahaha, yeah i was really surprised, my 1100T runs at 1.475 for 4.1 Ghz, so when he was at 4.6 with 1.286 i was like woah, i need to get back in bed with intel. That being said of course the 1100t needs more volts to begin with (and can withstand higher volts), but still, i did not believe it when my friend told me that he booted in to 4.6 with 1.275 in bios and 1.286 under full load in Prime 95. He one the silicon lottery fursure.

Not sure, It is not my chip, so i told him to do a really conservative OC. If it were mine i would push it, but he seems happy with 4.6.

I'm also more than happy with my 4,6G.

The Battlefield 3 plays verry smooth and temps dont jump the 56°C (room 22-23°C) in 4-6 hrs of play.

My 2500k is one of the weaker ones, needing ~1.38 vCore under load for 4.6 Ghz. That is however IBT Load which is rather a lot more load than Prime 95 can produce. Running Prime 95 sees a much lower vCore.

Funny though isn't it? I mean, my CPU is considered "weak" yet it's up one point three GigaHertz from the stock clock of 3.3! We really are spoilt at the moment aren't we? Lol.

+1 temps are fine too, mine does 4.4ghz with 1.24v. 5ghz with 1.4v.

i just got a retail chip, not had a lot of time to play with it yet but its doing 4.5ghz with just llc on but it seems to have a vid of 1.32v which is coming out as 1.3565v fully loaded, temps havent gone over 50c yet

not a losing chip but not an ic lotto winner either :/

As long as you use an i5, stay on 100/standard. Unless you know what you are doing.

They're not the same chip so can't be compared in paper overclocking

Like i said in my post, i know that they are different chips, but that being said the overclocking headroom on AMD chips does not match Intel's chips, and since the two companies are competing, i think its more than a fair comparison.

Nice volts for decent OC

My 2600K needs 1.5v for 4.8 But its ok for watercooling. But maybe I will get this clock a bit down to get the lower voltage.
