I Just Can't Help Myself!

I'm really itching to get those Xeon 5345s in the system. I hope they don't get horribly delayed in the post.

Keeping on topic. My 16gb Mini PCI-E arrived and it doesn't work in my T61. Bummer.

I have bought a Mini PCI-E to PCI-E card, so I'm going to try it in my HP XW6400. If it works that will be my windows boot disk. I'm not all that sure about how these things do what they do so I have no idea how likely this is to work.

With only 80mb read/sec it's not going to be the fastest boot in the word but I'm hopeing the seek times should be standard SSD 0.1ms which is where most of the gains will be found.

I really want a EVGA SR rig again and i am afraid i am going to

Blah. Dog just stuck her paw on the Esc key and cleard the post I was typing.

pffffft.

Right I will start with my good news. I got a text message yesterday saying my package had turned up (in Manchester). The only thing I am expecting are my two quad core Xeons (5345). So it looks they didn't get lost over the ocean and best of all customs kept their greedy little hands off them.

This gives me a nice little toy to play with when I eventually get back up there, (more on that in a bit).

Onto my PPD. It has porbably been noted that my PPD has dropped. This is for two reasons. All of the hardware I aquired to help my push to 5 Million has now been given back. Plus as I said previously, I was going to have to dial back the folding on my hardware once the 5 Million had been passed.

I intend to constantly fold on CPUs but the GPUs are going to be put on the back burner. There will probably some GPU folding everyday but I havn't figured out when and for how long yet.... Because I have an Arctic cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II on my Asus 560 Ti, I may well be able to get away with that folding 24/7 I think the heat output will be the desider on that one.

There is another reason why my PPD is down a little extra than it should be. I was suppose to go back upto Manchester over the weekend and then every day since. It looks like today it's not happening either. So things keep getting shut down, moved around and turned back on later.

Ok, all caught up. Happy folding !

Right. I'm in Manchester now. The XW6400 it getting a workout shortly.

First I'm loading it up with it's original 2ghz CPUs so I can get a good idea how far I can push the chipset and memory with setfsb.

After that it's getting loaded with my newly aquired 2.33ghz quad cores. As soon as I have a stable overclock (30mins Prime 95) I will get FaH running. This will be the ultimate stability test as it will be running all night but also net the team some points at the same time.

I will update when I get an indicated PPD as I'm sure a few people on here will be interested what 8 cores of C2D can produce.

And finaly.

I still can't help myself. On it's way to me next week (should turn up between Tuesday and Thursday) is a Samsung 830 64gb which will probably find it's home in the XW6400. I know it doesn't help PPD...... sorry

Edit:

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting BSOD with both quads installed.

Looking around forums (I did this prior to buying the quads) there are some motherboards for the XW6400 that do not like two quads. The one confirmed with a problem has an earlier revision motherboard, unfortunatly ones that worked were later revsions than I have.

So I am not impressed

Edit 2:

I even got BSOD when running them one at a time. Back on the 3ghz dual cores @ 3.3ghz and all is stable again.

Looks like a XW6600 motherboard is going on the shopping list. If/when I get one the XW6400 motherboard will go in the hardware giveaway thread along with the two 2ghz cpus.

This thread has now gone full circle.

My (third) motherboard has been posted today (swapped for my second motherboard and a small paypal payment) and I have just recieved the tracking number for it.

The guy that has sent it to me was kind enough to test the board wih two E5345s to make sure it was compatible, although I was confident it would be when he checked the revision number.

8 proper threads of folding power

The only way up from here is an SR2
