I had an idea when making toast this morning, as you do.

I am planning on re-sleeving my power supply fully, and I stumbled upon the idea, that maybe- to save £40 or so on a heat gun- it would be possible to turn the toaster up to the hell-raiser

setting and hold the wire above it to shrink the heat-shrink, without burning it with a lighter.

What do you guys think?

the toaster may work, but it will stink to high heaven, and (correct me if i am wrong) but the black fumes (smoke) that will occur from doing this can be toxic.

using a heatgun blows the fumes away at the same time and doing its heating job, making the task less harmful

does the smoke and stink not only occur when you burn it? it stunk when I did my mates with a lighter, which is why I thought a toaster would be good, as there are no flames?

Most toasters need bread in them before they will activate as a safety feature sounds to me like you'll be burning a lot of toast LOL

You could use a toaster but it would take about 10 minutes for the heatshrink to get to the temperature where it starts shrinking because you can't concentrate the heat.

I have a halogen heater that I use when I forget to "borrow" a heatgun from work.

I wouldn't suggest this, because obviously you're sleeving power cables but because you can't use direct heat when you're applying heatshrink to some fishing rigs, due to it causing stress in the line so we use a cup of boiled water and it works just as well.

the amount of power a toaster uses to heat stuff is alot, or so i have been told.

you would probs use alot of electricity so in the long run it will probs be best to buy the heat gun.

or you can just be a compleat rebble

Interesting, may use that in my fishing rigs XD
