How do u remove old workgroup drives ?

Have a pc, that`s been a member of many a ms workgroup and has in it references to drives that were on these workgroups. Assigning new networked drives, u always get a very long list of all the drives it used to know.

I have no doubt there`s a way to search through ur registry or similar to find all the old references to old drives u may have had, but is there a simple way to do it via windows` tools/menus ?

Used to think the links went in Nethood, but they aint there.

Closest I`ve seen through explorer is to "cut" it, but that`s not even close.

as a rough guess

how about using device manager?

show hidden devices uninstall the none connected ones, clean the reg and bingo!!

i think

Search the registry for one of the locations, they'll probably turn up all under the same key.

I have a vague feeling it's under a MRU hkey or something like that.

Yeah, I guessed at that, and I did find them in 2 locations.

Deleted the references and... they still appear when u do a listing.

Now, just after typing that I re-checked the registry and they`re back..

I`m wondering if/how they get put back there - so I check a source pc that used to have some of the drives and it holds references to drives it had in Nethood. Subsequently I deleted those.

So I`ll edit the registry again and see what happens. It could be that the pc reaches out and collects all the Nethood info, then stores it in the crawler.

EDIT: Just tried that and they appear in an explorer, but not in the registry. I`ve tried searching the C:\ drive too for files and contents and found nothing. Might be one of those stoopid things that gets collected at startup, so I`ll try a reboot.

if it was me (and i know this aint particually helpful) i'd just wipe the OS and start again...problem solved..

U`d think so.

But we`re not just talking last.

And erm, we`re not just talking about a few.

I switch out drives on a weekly basis sometimes, what with work and everything.

Last post got me thinking that I *believe* a fresh install might bring them back also, not 100% sure on that, so I`m thinking of the pcs within the group holding the info and broadcasting it.

i dont think i understand what you mean by "workgroup drives". Do you mean mapped drives to share's on other pc's? Or just shares of other pc's showing in "my network places"?

These would be drives that u would have allowed sharing on other pcs, so that when u goto MyNetworkPlaces they would show up on another.

The drives concerned are long gone, but still showup in an explorer listing.

Not mapped ones tho. I mean current mapped ones show up, but the ones concerned are not mapped.
