Hole in my 3930k

Hi all,

There is a hole in the corner of the heat exchange plate on my 3930k. I'm sure it's meant to be there but the question is, when I apply thermal paste, should I avoid it or just paste over it?

quick google shows that its supposed to be there (lots of forum threads of people scratching their heads), and i think people just went for the pea drop in the middle and let it spread itself

Lol i did this exact same post on the oc3d fb. Its fine dude just dont purposely smear the paste into it lol

I thought I heard Tom say (in a video) that due to the size of the 2011, it was better to spread first?

do what ever you feel comfortable with dude, dont purposefully rub paste into the hole but it will be fine to spread over, maybe use a slightly bigger blob

try what you like, if it doesnt work try a different strategy

No I don't, as the original post states, I wanted to know the best way to apply paste in conjunction with the hole. This is my first own build (I usually build PC's and servers for work) and I have never seen a hole in the back plate before. Anyway, if I wanted congrats, I would have posted the whole of my build in the new build section as Diablo pointed out (which I will do soon). Sorry if my post came accross in a 'glory hunting' way - I really didn't mean it to.

I didn't think it did at all mate. Just got my 3930k and wondered why there was a hole in it too!

I figured it was to do with aligning the CPU in the socket. I spread as thin as i could get with a plastic glue spreader.

Same I didn't think you were showing off either as the hole kinda confused me as well when I got mine.
