Hit a wall

Just started benching for the team and already i've hit a wall of 400 fsb from the cpu (Q6600) I'm using the componants listed in my sig. I've tried more voltage (max 1.5v ) to the cpu and lower multipliers but just 1 mhz over 400 and it fails / reboots. The GFX card seems quite good considering its on stock cooling and i've tried a few differemt drivers.

Whats a safe voltage to put through the cpu? although 1.5 in bios is 1.2 in cpz (major droop) Also what is safe for the memory? currently at 2.25v which is slightly over Crucials specs.

Ignore CPU-Z for voltage reading. LOL 0.3V droop would be a killer! The only way to measure accurately is to use a DMM on the mobo.

If you have a fan over the RAM, 2.3-2.4V benching is fine. More if you're really pushing for something.

The Asus P5B isnt really tuned for Quadcore so 400FSB might be about it.

Your 8800GTS clocks are spot on...if you voltmod and watercool it, it will truely fly

Couple more questions Would i benefit from dual booting using W2K and XP pro ? i ask as the older 3dmark programs ran on W2K. Also would my scores benefit from a newer / faster hardrive? Sorry for all the noobie questions but if you don't ask you don't learn

I would say yes for the hard drive as the one you are using is an old notebook drive???

A sata2 7200rpm with 16mb cache should improve your results, but not being an avid bencher I don't know how much the benchmarks rely on hard disk performance.

CPC and PCM05 benefit from a fast hard disk, but ideally you want a 3-way RAID to really get scores up in those benches.

A dual-boot can help yes- means you can have a bench boot ready to go without messing with a 24/7 boot and tweak each install for whatever benches you put on it
