High temps on Q6600 during overclock

I just stole your settings and BAM it went straight through POST but then came up with that corrupt or missing crap about ntoskrnl.exe so i reset to former speed and it booted straight in. WTF?

Whoa, you just found one of my first threads! Congrats on diggin up old stuff. :P But anyway, I had my PC running at 3,6 for a benchtest, and it worked great.

Sorry :D but it had been replied to before I got it. Trying to get a stable OC now of 3.4ish (failing though :( ) can you slide me any other details you have or remember?

Well, keep the multiplier at 9 and set the FSB to the desired target, then try with a vCore of 1,32v and keep increasing it one step at a time until you get it dual Prime95-stable. That's what I did. :) Btw, keep your memory at stock speeds and timing while doing this, you can start clocking it afterwards.

Edit: Oh, and unlink your memory. ;) What kind of mobo is it?

:D I put in your settings from above and set VCore to 1.34?? and decreased it until 1.26 which is stock so then set it to AUTO. On AUTO it booted and got through 2 of the 3DMark06 tests then died :D

I'll give that a go but i'll leave the DRAM at 930 as it is using stock settings.

Asus Striker Extreme 680i

I get 3.0GHz without changing everything.

I'd prefer to set the vCore manually, as you got an idea of how much juice you're giving the CPU, without the risk of overvolting it and causing a quick death. But why would you decrease the voltage if it doesn't run stable? By decreasing you wont get any good results, as it needs more voltage to run on a higher frequency. But beware of going over 1,5v on air. If it wasn't stable at 1,34v, up the voltage one step and try again, and do this until it's prime-stable. And remember to keep an eye on the temps using CoreTemp. :)

Wack the Vcore at 1.34-1.35 and then you should get it to 3.2 i would have thought, then up it abit more.. on air ide stop around 1.4.. Just to be on the safe side.

I've fiddled around a bit with OC'ing my rig, and the temps while running my Q6600 @ 3,4GHz is around 46C idle, and almost up to 67C under full load using OCCT (where the program stops testing at 67C). As it is now, I'm only running my CPU at 3,4GHz while benchmarking, as I think the temps are too high. The same goes for 3,2GHz, only with a few degrees lower coretemps, so usually I'm running at 3,0Ghz, where it's @ 40C idle and 66C full load.

My rig:

MB: Asus P5N-T Deluxe (BIOS 0802)

CPU: Core2Quad Q6600 "G0" @ 3GHz (8x375)

RAM: 2x1GB Cruicial BallistiX PC2 8500 @ 1200MHz

GPU: 2x XFX GF 8800GTS 512 ADEdition 750/1050MHz

Cooler: Tuniq Tower 120

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000w

Case: Antec P182

I read one of the previous posts regarding the Q6600 withstanding temps up to 70C, but I still think my temps are pretty high using the Tuniq Tower cooler. I've left all the voltage options on auto, as I'm fairly new to OC'ing.

Have any of you got an idea of how to keep my temps down, by for instance setting the vCore manually?

hi i have same cpu as u,please could u put some pics or ideas how ican clock my cpu to same speed as yours please as i have same cpu, thankyou.
