Hi all,

firstly let me introduce my self, my name is firat im 20 years old.

I built my first Pc at 17

, im at university now and currently study something totally irrelevant to computers (biochemistry) but im a computer enthusiast i love computers and such, so this is why i am here....

i really want to build a really good system not that i will need it for more than experimental purposes but i just want to see what i can do,

i have bought an asus rampage extreme 3 and 6 X 2gb kingston 1333mhz ram so far

im convinced that the cpu cooler i will need as i will be overclocking somewhat will be the noctua nh-14 im not sure what processor i should get, power supply (quiet) i will need and also need advice on graphics cards and also best hardrive brands,

if anyone has any ideas feel free and get involved id love to have a pc built with all of your ideas

Thanks

Firat

Hi Firat, welcome to OC3D

Power supplies we would usually recommend a Corsair. Either the TX or HX (the same, only the latter has modular cables).

The CPU of choice right now for socket 1366 would be the I7 950 as it is only around £15 more expensive than the 930 and is much better. Cooler? well again, the NH-D14 is the one to have providing it will clear your memory. I don't know what memory you have there (well, I know you said Kingston but they do many types) but if you are running the Hyper X modules with the very tall fins on then the NH will not clear them. A picture of your product will help us to sort that out for you.

Bang for buck in hard drives usually comes back with the Samsung F3 series, and the graphics card of the moment right now is the GTX 570. However, the GTX 570 obviously would depend on your budget and what you intend to do with the system once it is built. If you are looking for something cheaper and don't rely too heavily on gaming then the 460 is a good choice and comes in a few flavours (ram sizes, coolers and clock speeds).

Well a budget is important when planning these things. Set away the money and then you can spec the best for your cash.

CPU wise, I would get a i7 950, they are great CPU's and have a higher base clock than the 930, but most of the quad core i7's are all the same chip type, just the better chips get sold at higher base clocks and prices.

Cooler; well if you want the best air cooler then that will be the NH-D14, I have one myself, and its a breeze overclocking my i7 950. It also got my old AMD 955BE to 4.2GHz stable.

HDD, that again falls on what you want to use them for, I personaly had a number of, in my eyes, bad F3's as they were very noisy, and I have since used WD green drives for data.

I would reccomend a SSD as a boot drive and then a 1tb data drive.

GPU, that comes down to personal choice, do you want AMD, or Nvidia. GTX 570 is a stonking card, although its priced at £300ish give or take a £30. AMD have some very good cards sub £200 and also there new cards are ok, but only match a 570 at best, but are priced below the 570.

It all comes down to what you want the rig to be for in the end.

It's the Kingston hyper x it doesn't have the fins just the ram module so it should be ok right khx1600c9dk3/6gb x 2 is the ram module model number

Are you sure it's 1333 Mhz ram that you have there? Because it looks like it is 1600Mhz. ;-)

For the case, well there are many options for you to choose from. Just scan around some sites (would recommend http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Cases/Casefinder:::29_10437.html since they have a wide range of cases and a pretty good search). Do you want a full tower or a mid tower? Plastic, steel or aluminium? Black or a different colour? Cooling? ... Just have a look around and post some ideas. So we know what you are looking for.

Edit: Just had a look at Kingston's webiste. It is 1600mhz ram with CL9 timings.

Nh-14 noctua for CPU cooling + a White or silver case I had my eyes on the bitforrent colloses correct me

If I'm wrong.....what tower wud b best do u think?

Just a quick question why do you have 2 threads on the same topic?

And yea it is decent memory.

The Bitfenix Colossus is a great case. I'm personally going to be using the white window version in my new build.

EDIT: Sorry I saw that one is also your introduction so let's move the conversation about your system specs to the other thread
