Hey guys/girls.

This is my first time on one of these forums. I'm about to build my first computer and id like to do a little overclocking and get the most out of my system. I understand things have changed and you can no longer just increase the FSB to get a quick and easy overclock, so id appreciate any help you guys could give(I know I have to build the computer first).

Here is my setup so you know what I am working with:

CPU INTEL|C2D E6400 2.13G 775

CASE ENERMAX|ECA3052B (mid case with the huge fan on the side)

PSU ANTEC|NEOHE 550 550W (Friend told me this was a very "efficient" supply)

MEM 1Gx2|CRUCIAL TY2KIT (2 gigs of the anniversary edition ram)

HD 320G|ST 7K 16M SATA2 (Seagate 320 gig drive)

MB GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 P965 775

Aftermarket cooler: Scythe Infinity (Man this thing is big i hope i can install it)

I also purchased 2 other 120mm fans to put around the case for airflow/cooling.

So If you guys have any recomendation for overclocking and whatnot, id really appreciate it. By the way , my last name is shoemaker, and im from Miami Florida. Im pretty sure Im the only shoemaker on this board :) thanks for all the help

Hey mate - nice to see you here :)

Overclocking on the newer Intel platform is still pretty straight forward tbh.

Check you have C1E and Thermal Throttling disabled, then up the FSB till it reaches a sticking point. Make sure you keep your RAM as close as DDR800 as possible. Up the voltage as/when necessary. Thats about it :D

Nice to have ya here :wavey:

Welcome to OC3D mate. Follow kemps instructions there, and if you run in to any problems at all, please start a thread and we can give you the assistance you need. See ya around!

Hey Dashoe:wavey: Good luck with your overclock and as others have said just shout if you run into a problem.

Hey everyone its nice to feel welcome.

Well i finally got the cpu up and running (it took a little bit with figuring out how to adjust the ram settings so it would copy over all of the files to boot windows.) With my default, un overclocked setups I am running a 3dmark06 at 4570. Im not too happy w my nvidia display drivers,

But ya Id like to get started with the overclocking but i want to make sure everything is stable first

My comp temps from the bios are weird, the cpu tempurature actually lower than system temp.

system temp is at 34 degrees and cpu temp is at 43 idle kinda strange

Well the temps in bios are pretty much useless, I wouldn't worry about it, for stability I would advise using prime95 and running it for about 8 hours just to be very safe.

Ok well now updated, i ran prime95 or w/e for 11 hours and got no errors or warnings, also i was looking in some other cooling information and it said that my cpu/system temp was running at 34-35degrees celsius. seems pretty good. I think im ready to start over clocking, is there any kinda of step by step guide i could follow that anyone has writen? I can prolly figure out some of the stuff, but the stuff w the ram timings and voltages ill be completely lost on. I dunno i want to make this thing a very good computer (hopefully it will still be good come time when warhammer mmo comes out). thanks for all the info and input.

O yea, i want to overclock my gpu, what utilities would i use? I have a 7900 gs ko (overclocked) from evga, how would i go about making it a little bit faster and stuff?

O yea, also what did you mean kempz when you said about keeping ur memory as close to ddr800 as possible? that really didnt make much sense to me.

The listings in the BIOS show the memory speed as actual speed

Look at this, its the readings im getting in my PC HEALTH status in bios. Notice the "FAIL" next to DDR18V, what in the world is that and is it bad? (Stuff like this is preventing me from starting to overclock, i want to make sure the pc is completely healthy before i screw around with it).

hey..everything should be fine. i normally tend to run it for 24 hours as it is know to fail quite oftain beftween 20-24. just me though!

meh

Welcome from 1 new guy to another...

You might be new, but you still prolly understand this stuff much better than me. I still cant get my comp overclocked

O.o
