Guys,

Need your help......

Decided to re-seat the mach2 GT head onto my fx55, thinking it was time for a condensation check.

All went back together and booted fine, until..........

I decided to load optimised defaults and restart my overclocking antics from scratch.

Now the unit will not post, I get 3 lights on constantly on the diagnostic LED which normally means CPU

What perplexes me here is that all was fine and now it isn't :(

System specs:

DFI NF4 SLI-DR MOBO BIOS 326

2x 6800GT - watercooled

Mach2 GT

FX55

Raptor 74GB in SATA mode

BH-5 2x 512MB

DVD Writer

I really dont know what's happened, anyone else had this? What wa the problem/solution?

Cheers

No beeps, tried changing ram slot too, the diagnositc lights remain with 3 of them lit up though.

Even tried TCCD and generic ram.

any idea?

I think either CPU or Motherboard

I have ordered a 3200 winchester to help see if I can rule out one of them

Cheers

does your board detect for no cpu fan? cause when i reset the BIOS and turn mine back on it beeps like a bitch until i disable the cpu fan warning in the bios.

maybe ur not getting a good contact with the cpu? guess you don't want to remove the head again to check. did u reset bios?

I checked that, twice to be sure - even cold booted with head removed to see if there was a temp issue (too cold??).

Still the same.

Keep those ideas coming through guys.

Wingz mate,

Thanks for the link, the unit si back up and running - don't ask me how as I had tried all of those things - I was half way through stripping it all out for RMA when I thought 'just one more try'.

I put it back together with essentials only switched it on - and it posted.

Did it again with the other VGA fitted and that worked - tried one stick of BH5, that worked, then two, that worked, then I fully re-fitted everything and it's back to normal now.

I have no idea or can provide no explanantion as to why it stopped or started working again.

I guess I am just happy it's working.

Thanks for the support and suggestions though guys, much appreciated.

always the way dude...

i've thought many a pc were broken in my time just to find its a usually a seating issue or grounding...

only once has it actually been a component failure and that was a motherboard

Yep, and I don't mind saying it's been a right little Thrush swapping them out - Damn you SLI for being a right biatch to change around when watercooling is added to the equation

Yeah I use Innovatek blcoks at the moment although it's likely I'll change to Koolance in the near future - the set-up looks a lot better for removing the heat from the GPU (300w gold plated blocks) as well as cool the RAM.

Only changing to koolance as I am going for the external EXOS2 rig and I dont have room for 1/2" units.

Hmmm what are the innovatec blocks worth then may be interested in your two and any ideas on why your card died what make was it????

I'll PM you details when I am ready to sell fatty mate - Koolance not expected in stock for anothee two weeks.

I feel certain that I just pushed it too far and forgot to set-it back when I had finished Benching.

Left with both 2d and 3d set at 455/1200 1.4v for two days solid, PC was not turned off for that perios of time.

Can't discuss any more than that until RMA has been sorted ;)

No probs mate its just I have my second card on its way to me today and just need to know precautions etc and also I heard that if you dont cool the mem on the card it can effect it???

Yep u deffo need cooling on the ram, watercooled ram is a quieter solution than ramsinks, some would argue that it gives better cooling also.

In my opinion that can be down to how big the fan is circulting the air around the card :) but suffice to say, I prefer water cooled ram.

I shoot off on my hols next week but on my return I am hoping to get the full monty koolance and innovatek blocks will be up for grabs - of which my friend, you get 1st refusal.

You probably already know, the innovatek cooler are the units used 6 series of Gainwards COOL FX range of watercooled GPU's.
