I need some help overclocking!

I cant get it stable anywhere near I want to be able to!

Q6600 - Had it stable at 3.3 I think

Maximus formula flashed to a rampage formula

OCZ reaperX 1000 4gb (2x2gb) kit

I'm aiming for 3.6ghz or something but it keeps crashing, not sure whether its the RAM or the CPU..how can I find out?

I'm quite clueless as to what FSB strap I should use, what RAM frequency (i got timings to the rated 5-5-5-18) and refresh timing to 55 (i think ocz said thats what it needs to be...maybe i should use auto?

As for voltages and what i need to change, i know vcore needs changing but iv tried it nearly up to 1.5v and its still not stable, so iv put that back down as its not that, i dont know good values for fsb termination voltage etc.

Help please :)

There are two versions of this CPU. The B3 (original) and the G0 stepping. If yours is the original it will run hotter and won't overclock anywhere near as far as the G0.

I have a G0 :)

So 3.4 is a good place to be..

So just so I know the steps to take, what settings should I be aiming to change to and which settings to modify a bit at a time, max voltages and timings for RAM etc.?

ummm i cant tell u in detail i still have the maximus but the bios corruted and i lost all the settings for it

what settings are you using atm

I have the GO stepping version as well and I've had trouble pushing it beyond 3.4 well stable at least. Liquid cooled and I don't have any heat, but my proc doesn't go beyond 3.4. Keep in mind not every chip is created equal. While one could clock all the way to 3.6 or beyond another that you bought at the same place and the same time might not go above 3.2. You might have just found your limit.

Temps get to 60c max after an all day session of prime95 :)

yeah ur prob on the highest volts ud wanna put through that on air but depends how much vdroop ur suffering what does cpu-z say when ur runing prime? it will usually drop when ur on load

what ram do you have? is it 5-5-5-18? you could prob bring that down to 5-5-5-15 i had my ocz stuff @ 2.1v - 800 mhz running 4-4-4-12 stable after a run through memtest but at over 1000 it wouldnt boot unless it was 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v
