help! not quite sure what is wrong

It's always the simple stuff that seems to get us. Sometimes you just need to leave something for a bit then come back to it later.

Just about every time I build a new rig and go to turn it on for the first time, my heart skips a beat because it won't boot. Then I just flip the switch on the power supply and all is well...

Its rather embarssing to admit but I figure you all should have a chuckle at my expense. CPU power wasn't plugged in. Very silly misstake but it is working and running like a champ. My Noctua gave me a nice bite on my knuckle last night for being so airheaded!

seeing as it was the same problems as before do you think it might have been the same on your other board?

At least you have it sorted.

Could very well have been the issue, would have saved me some time and money if I got it right the first time. I am very surprised that ASUS tech support never asked if I had the CPU power plug in, I suppose they assume that if you're buying a decently expensive board you aren't a dolt

Once its built and set up (ahem properly) make sure you post some pics dude.

Will do, I wish I got a modular power supply, the Lancool case doesn't have a ton of room to hide all those excess cables. I'll have to get a little creative with my cable management for it to look halfway decent.

Don't sweat it. A friend of mine did exactly the same thing and that's why I have a free Phenom 9950.
