Help for WiFi card

Hi all!

I need a wifi card... for my current system, which only has USB2 ( :( ) so i think it would be better getting a PCI or PCIE WiFi card. My motherboard is a Gygabyte GA-EX58-UD3R (rev. 1.6)

I have to buy it as soon as possible because i must leave my current house within 1-2 weeks.

I'd like to get something compatible with Win 7 and 8 ( and future updates ) in order to use it in case of system upgrade. My budget is around 50 €, i hope it's enough for a quality card ( maybe i can spend a bit more if it's a very good one )

Any suggestions about models or brands? I know nothing about these cards .-.

Thank you

p.s.: would it be bad choice to get a USB adapter, considering i only have USB2 on this pc? Are usb adapter slower and/or have higher latencies?

Not thought about Powerline homeplugs? Uses the existing electrical wires in your house, very simple to set up. I use some fairly inexpensive TP-Link ones.

I can't, i'm going to a dormitory... so, wifi only.

Is a quality USB adapter good enough for a stable connection and low ping, even with usb2?

USB spec won't make much of difference. They can transfer far more than any normal connection. I have a tp link n600 and its great for any desktop use. Laptops on the other hand depends because its so freaken huge...

From my experience those mini/small USB adapters are crap when outside the max distance from the router.. which is like 10 feet. Also not strong enough to go through walls or such.

What about the ASUS USB-AC56 802.11ac ? I read a review about it and seems quite good, it has an expansion antenna and an extender

Other good pcie cards?

Is this an overkill? :yelrotflmao:

Update: what about the WNDA4100-100PES ( netgear, USB ) or the TL-WDN4800 N900 ( tp link, PCIE ) ?

I second the Asus AC card. You will only need to buy it once so it's a good investment. Ultra powerful and AC ready.

Yeah but it's quite on the expensive side :asd:

What about the other two options? I doubt i'll ever have an AC router

It's only $99 and you will only have to purchase it once. AC is just sugar on the cake. It is a very powerful set of THREE antennas meaning you'll be able to go anywhere and still pick up signal. I would stay away from any USB ones, not only do they utilize a port but they are never as fast or as reliable a PCI based one. A $30 PCI one will most likely out perform a $60-$100 USB one. In your situation I would get the strongest you can find. If you want something less expensive you can go with this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106192)

That PCI-E card looks pretty good. It looks like you might be able to replace the antennas if you need bigger range too.
As a side note when it comes to wireless adapters, or even routers ignore most products that don't have external antennas.

The WDN4800 is pretty good. I built my neighbour a PC with that card in it and I got the full 60Mb/s of my subscription with a concrete wall between the router and the computer.
