Hi guys, I'll try and keep this short - I'm 20 years old, from Ireland and currently working in a bank (:()!

I love PC gaming but unfortunately I'm a complete novice when it comes to building a PC. I bought my current rig pre-built from overclockers in mid 2007: Abit AW9D-Max, E6600, BFG 8800GTX, 2GB Corsair memory and a 1000W BFG psu bundled in an Antec 900. It was a huge step up from my 4 year old Dell Dimension 4600 and has served me fairly well for the last year and a half (apart from having to send it back to overclockers less than a month after receiving it!).

I'm going to buy a new pc for 2009 (probably after Christmas) which has motivated me to learn more about building one myself and hence why I came here. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute in some way to the community as well!

Welcome dude, Your setup sounds similar to what I had a few years ago, 2gb, e6600 + 8800gtx..

You arent really going to get a lot faster, without spending a lot of money. You should try overclocking first, it should breath new life into your machine for little or no money.

That PC is decent enough, you shouldn't need to upgrade for a while. If you feel you must buy a new PC, make sure you don't buy a pre-build. Even though some of them are decent deals, most of them are sold for a giant percentage of profit.

Good luck with the new build, and welcome to OC3D. :)

Thanks for the welcomes :)

I could probably wait another 5 or 6 months to upgrade but seeing as I have the opportunity to do it now (and the Euro to Sterling rate means I get a much better deal now buying from England), I thought why not. It would also leave me prepared for upcoming games like FEAR 2, Burnout Paradise, Cryostasis (assuming they turn out well), and also let me play all my current games more comfortably at higher settings - maybe even GTA IV, though I think everyone is having problems with that at the moment.
