HDD Help Please!

Hi there

I posted an earlier thread trying to find how I could get my girlfriends laptop back to life here

I have the HDD out and plugged into my desktop (plugged into master on IDE cable) with use of an adapter thingy, however when I double click on it in my computer, the my computer freezes up. It also takes ages for windows to boot, from my HDD with it plugged in. The hard disk is detected by hardware monitor programs and I can hear it spinning...

Are there any utilities, programs etc that can help? I'm trying to access the disk to get any personal files etc I can as Windows is foobar and won't start.

The disk is: ST960812 A SCSI Disk device.. as it appears in Device Manager.

Any help would be great, cheers!

Does your mobo have an onboard SCSI-controller?

As for a program, download SpinRite, burn it onto a CD and boot your PC with the CD and run diagnostics from there. I've actually never used it yet, but I'll probably try it later today, as I have a semi-dead 320gb-disk lying around. :P

Cheers man, the spin rite has done the trick I think, I've been able to copy files and everything over to my computer now. I'm going to see how it works out in the laptop and see if windows will boot or not. Hopefully :)

Thanks a bunch man!
