HD6990 is dissapointing me

Hello guys,

I recently bought the HD6990 and now bought AC3.
And with a card that has 3072 shader cores I expect more than 30FPS.
I already saw on the internet that there were more problems with this card.
http://forums.videocardz.com/topic/249-assassins-creed-iii-performance-test/

Now my question is that how long would it take when ATI comes with new drivers? Or will it help to use an older driver
Or is this fixable? Because it sounds weard... everybody who has the HD6990 can't play AC3??? And are there more games also with problems???
I hope i get some good advice because I paid 600€ for this card and wan't to play every game.

Thanks and sorry for my english

hmm looks like the cards starting to struggle on modern games, it is quite old now.. if it was me i would consider selling and upgrading or getting a 6970 cheap to give it some extra performance http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1084/pg18/xfx-radeon-6970-and-radeon-6950-graphics-card-review-3-way-crossfire-eyefinity-vs-sli.html e.g http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XFX-AMD-Radeon-HD-6970-HD-697A-CNFC-2-GB-GDDR5-SDRAM-PCI-Express-x16-/121064158918?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item1c2ffc76c6
edit:not sure if you can put a 6970 with a 6990 ? can someone confirm if you can or cant ?
or trying to bag this 6990 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vtx-Radeon-Hd-6990-/160969078285?pt=UK_Computing_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item257a81360d

Ooooft...
I hadn't for AC3.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/508?vs=515

Seems very wrong to me that the 6990 does better in max settings on BF3 at 5760x1200 than it does in AC3 at 1920x1080.

Maybe get onto AMD and see if they're planning to fix this at any point?
If not, I'd consider selling the card and getting something like a 7970/670/7950 as all of those will max it out on a single screen.

AC3 is very bad optimised.even for single gpu cards.also its more a cpu game.but something is wrong.benchmark your rig with more games and vantage etc and compare your results

ive just downloaded AC3 and tested it on my card 7970 3gb its runs around 45fps @ 2560 x 1440 with everything on very high settings, just for a comparison

ok the HD6990 is normaly a much better card than the HD7970 and I'm getting not even 40FPS and i'm running it on 1080p and I should have 85FPS average does somebody know what to do or is it just the drivers from ati

Why on earth would you buy a 6990?

Firstly you would be absolutely amazed at just how few titles actually support dual GPUs in their code. There's a good reason for this - consoles. Right now they all use a single GPU. The latest game (and supposedly greatest) to look stunning is Far Cry 3. It does not support Crossfire or SLI in the code, meaning you have to run a profile. Even then I got about 4 FPS more than I got on one card.

The only time you should ever rely on multiple GPUs is when you have one card that is capable of going it alone should it need to. That's why I have SLI GTX 670 because when the need arises (and it does, a lot) you can fall back onto one GPU.

I'm just flabbergasted as to why you would buy a dual GPU barbecue with all of the new modern ones out there?

yeh its probably only using one gpu in the 6990... and a 7970 is much MUCH faster than a 6970 so there's the speed difference.. also ive noticed AS3 is only using 1 core aswell ? have a look at you cpu meter while you play if you have multi screens, mine seems to only max out one core and the other are on 10 ish %

That's right I have on BF3 1080p more than 70 FPS average and AC3 not even 40FPS average.
And that's what i'm planning to do if this doesn't work, selling the card.
What I think is that the HD6990 just has so bad drivers or optimizing on AC3 and different games maybe.
Maybe I'll be better with the GTX680 or does anybody know what's the best card I should get.
Because do I need more than 2GB VRAM for just a 1080p screen??

When I said you would be amazed at how few titles support multiple GPUs I meant it. You would be seriously surprised. I had trouble finding 30 and that was on Nvidia's website.

It's incredible just how many people are fooled into thinking that all titles support such technologies. Sure, there are work arounds in profiles and patches but they are literally that - bodges. I was really surprised when my min FPS on Far Cry 3 went from 47 to, well, erm, 47. At the high end I gained about 4 FPS but tbh I could put that down to a margin of error.

Now Metro 2033? my scores doubled, and in the instance of min FPS I went from 4 to 9 lol. So that's pretty impressive but titles that do use it all are very, very thin on the ground.

Was the same reason that had me breaking down my triple monitor array. For all of the four or five titles that actually natively worked with it countless games did not. Seemed stupid to have three monitors hanging from the wall with just the Dirt series and a very small handful of others being usable with it.

The last time I took the cheap option on dual GPUS (IE buying two cheap ones instead of one top end one and hoping for the same performance) I got burnt. When my 5770s worked in Crossfire all was good. Sadly they hardly ever did, and dropping to one card made games unplayable on high settings.

The 2 GPU's are on average 60% but only got 45FPS average.Why aren't they on 100% if it's getting just 45FPS?
But when I do a movement like turning around in AC3 it just go's to 30FPS.
All my cores of my CPU are working.
On this site you see the GTX680 is getting a min of 52FPS.
Then why performs the HD6990 so low.

actually ac3 is very much a single threaded game like the other AC's
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/354013-10-assasins-creed-thread
it uses 99% of the first thread and 10-20% of the others
