Am currently running a 19" Mirai monitor @ 1440x900 but am looking to up this to 22" 1080p compatible at some point in the future. Ideally don't want to go above £200 and have found the Asus HD4890 for £164.99 on OCUK. Have read that it isn't quite as fast as the GTX 275 but is better value for money. Please give me your thoughts as I'm stuck!!

gtx 260's are value for money! you could wait a little while as i am sure there will be new cards out soon or you could always pick up a gtx260 or 4870 used for about £100

Any idea how much faster than the GTX260 the 4890 is? I know that there's some new cards coming out before the end of the year but I never know how long to wait before you just end up constantly waiting for the price to come down on one thing only for something better to come along so you start waiting for the price of that to drop etc... Looking at the price and the reviews I've read I think the GTX275 isn't the card for me so thats one down at least.

no idea with the 280 mate but i have it stable at these settings

core 746mhz

shader 1563mhz

mem 1257mhz

which puts it past gtx285 speeds

the only thing that slows it down compared to the 285 is the memory bandwith

Well i just bought a hd4890 and i am most impressed even though i am gaming @ 1440 x 900 res on a 19inch, i am planning on getting a 1080p 22inch when money allows, i think tbh the gtx 275 shades the hd4890 and they overclock about the same percentage but i read a review where the hd4890 overclocked to 1ghz on the core and 1200mhz on the memory (4800mhz).

The gtx260 is a great card and so is the hd4870 and i looked at these as well but i had a budget of £160ish so went for a hd4890 as the gtx275 was a bit over and also my mobo is crossfire as opposed to sli capable.

So i reckon the 4890 is a great card compared to the others.:D

That's around where my 280 went. Thing I missed out on was the core:shader ratio cos it kept complaining when it wasn't 1:2

Whats the noise level like on your 275 woppy? Looking at price and overclocking potential its either going to be Asus 4890 or the iChill GTX275 for me. I'm giving myself until next payday to have made the decision so a little while yet.

Edit: Just found the 275 by XFX on OCUK for £176.98. Would post the link but apparently I can't until I've made 15 posts. Reckon it'd be worth the extra £10 over the 4890?

that one from xfx has the stock cooler on it and by all acounts is quite warm, i was looking at that too till i found this one and another added bonus this has a 3 year warranty as well. i can hardly hear mine plus i played cryis yesterday for around three hours and my tempreture hit 51c just once as i type this it is idling @ 34c

Ok, fair point. That iChill card of yours does seem pretty sweet and am getting very tempted. Have given myself til next payday to decide so a little while to go yet but am definitely swaying towards the 275. Only downside is that I have a crossfire only compatible motherboard so would it be better going for the 4890 with the intention of getting another later on? Or would I get just as good performance on a 22" monitor with one overclocked 275?
