HD4850 1024 or HD4870 512

Greetings clan :wavey:

Got a bit of a choice to make. I had to RMA this 4850, was too damn hot for my liking. Cost just under £130. 4870s have come down a tad since I bought 4850, looking at a 512 one for £165.

Do you think I`d miss the extra ½ a gig? I use Photoshop quite a bit, wee bit of Bryce and Terragen, or would the faster core and GDDR5 memory just simply make the choice a no brainer? I game on 1680x1050, started playing Far Cry 2 but stopped until I get my replacement card (8600GT just doesn`t hack it).

The video memory doesn't really make any difference imo, it's generally used for higher resolutions. Performance wise I don't think you would find any difference, Photoshop is a simple enough app to be ran on a standard system.

I'd chip in the extra bit and get a 4870, it is a far superior card and you WILL notice the difference in games.

We call that a low / mid / high res ?

I`m thinking mid+, as in 512m is plenty.

Solved it ... got myself one of these fellas. At £188, not bad at all
