Hardware or Driver issue?

Think I may have to RMA my 8800GT as it is doing this fairly often:

Typically it has been doing it while under load although last night it started doing it when I was playing around with some imagery in GIMP.

Is it possible that this is just a driver issue? I'm running forceware 169.12. I think my mates card was doing the same and he ordered at the same time from the same place so it's possible that the card could be from a faulty batch.

One more thing, installing a water block onto the card wouldn't cause this to happen would it? It's not running very hot at all so I don't think anything has fried!

If the temps are OK and you haven't OC'd it then I'd probably put it down to a faulty card. You can probably try some older drivers, but I doubt it will make squat all difference.

Forgot to mention, yeah I haven't clocked it.

Looks like RMA then :(

169.21 for XP

169.25 for Vista 32 (beta but on the download as recommended)

When u reinstall driversets, u need to uninstall the old ones, then DriveCleanerPro in safemode and then search for nv*.* files in ur system and remove them b4 installing.

I'm running vista 64, and on the NV site the latest is 169.02, although I'm running the recommended drivers for crysis (169.12). I've done the driver install correctly by removing all old files.

The temps are 30oC idle and about 36-42oC under load.

Even tho ur not overclocked, try turning down the memory speed on the card.

May work, but even if it does, it should be rma`able if u have to do it to get it working properly.

Get something similar to that in TimeShift, even after installing the update that said it got rid of it.

It's already on the lowest setting:

670MHz core

1650MHz shader

975MHz memory

Surely this indicates bad hardware? Am I likely to be told where to go if I put the stock cooler back on and RMA it?

Duke and one of my mates bought this card at the same time, my mate's card immediately had problems similar to Duke's but with green lines of that shape. Duke's seems to have developed. They both bought the Alpha Dog, is it possible that it's a problem restricted to this specific version of the card?

The card is Pre-OC'd isn't it? If so, it could well be.

Well I was getting artifacts on my card in crysis but that is becasue of the overclock. I reduced it slightly and all is well.

If you get any problems like that at stock there are no questions to me - RMA.

Re. the watercooling - just put the stock block back on and you will be fine, deny all knowledge!
