3080 10G pegged at 100%

Hey peeps,
I'd like to pick your brains please I'm not sure if it's normal for your GPU to be at 100% usage in games all the time, I'm on Windows 11 fully updated and Nvidia driver 531.29 and when I play MW5 or WW3 or Star Citizen my GPU usage goes to 100% is this normal?

Originally I had WW3 on ultra settings but it was constantly stuttering and also felt like my ram buffer was filling up too, as it gets to the point where it's just a laggy stuttery mess, so I dropped everything pretty much to medium, there's only a couple of setting which I can't think of off the top of my head that are on high and sure enough although it took longer GPU usage was pegged at 100%

I game at 3440x1440 and I checked my ram settings and it's at the rated speed and I though wallpaper engine running in the background was the cause and disabled it before gaming and that made little difference even after a restart, so yeah not sure.

It should only get to max usage if you are in a super demanding game OR you have uncapped FPS.

Go into the Nvidia control panel and set a limit on the FPS, Try 60 just to see then report back.

vram is seperate issue to % load and if your at 99%+ load in games this is a good thing, so you don't need to worry only way to bring that down is cap frames so it's totally normal in my view, the issue would be when your in games and it was 70% load then it wouldn't be getting full use of the hardware.

Thanks for the replies, my biggest issue is I'm still getting micro stutter and input latency when playing WW3 and it gets to the point where I can't hit anything as they aren't where my system says they are or I think I have the drop on someone but due to the delay I really don't, my first round is usually ok, then as I play more it just goes to total s$%t! And it's so frustrating that I stop enjoying the game.
In MW5 if I zoom in after playing for awhile the lag is so bad that my mech stops and I can't play but once I unzoom it takes about 10-30 seconds before the game normalizes and I'm able to play again, but I can't zoom in for the rest of the round or it does it again.

things like that is part vram but could also be a memory leak kind of issue, so long as your sure the settings your using aren't taxing the card then it could be either change of area or map or LOD issue that is using up more vram or isn't cutting the old stuff out to free up space. if it happens over time and gets worse then it'll be vram as many in hogwarts when changing areas then encounter stuttering and lag with textures.

Idk what really to suggest but it's not the card being at full load i feel that is causing it.

Yeah I suspect you're right KingNosser it feels like a memory leak issue but it got me stuffed as to what's causing it, I'm thinking about maybe reformatting to a dual boot system, and having my day to day on one side and all my gaming on the other, to see if that helps.

Not sure related, but I had at one point my CPU pegged 100% from just using Chrome/Firefox. Tried several things before ultimately just reinstalling the software and it fixed the issue at hand. It might be relatable in that sense as to reinstall the game and see if the issue still persists. As in the end, software is tricky to troubleshoot.

Well interestingly enough there was a Chrome update as well as a new Nvidia driver yesterday and I had no issues gaming last night, my GPU was running between 40 and 70% and the VRAM buffer didn't seem to be getting full either, so really happy and Thanks for the help all!
