h80i temps

yes, i know i already had a thread about this but it really gave no answers and i suspect it was just getting ignored because "ive already clicked that"
i previously had the pc in the desk, i tried cutting holes in the place it sat to let it breath, slight improvement, but now i've just put it ontop the desk. 10 degree improvement in the open and its rather cold tonight.
i experimented with the fan speeds and found absolutely no temperature difference between 500rpm and 1400rpm or even 2500rpm. no matter the fan speed, i get ~70 degrees celcius in OCCT.
its a standard clock i5 3450, running default voltage. my friend with a 3470 on stock cooler gets better temps than me. this cant be right.
i did check the fans were spinning correct way, and that they are mounted the correct way.

side question- cpu-z tells me the core voltage during OCCT testing is 1.040, sometimes 1.032. if i undervolt my CPU is 1.040 my starting point?

Well to me it either sounds like you need to reseat the CPU block OR you just didn't win the CPU lottery :(
well, in occt one of the core temps constantly reads as 1.5 lol
side question remains unanswered though.

I agree with Dice, must be an issue with the contact between the block and CPU. What's the water temp in the H80i? I am using it to cool an 8320 @ stock. At full load the CPU has around 55-56 degrees, and the water temp is just shy of 40. If your water temp is a lot lower than that, it's clearly a reseating job. Can't help with the side question, not an over/under clocker at all.

yeah okay, h80i temp 1 comes up as 28 degrees while the cpu averages around 70 whoa theres a issue there. gotta order myself some cleaning agent and thermal paste. recommendations possibly? im thinking arctic silver because everyone does, what about a non conductant paste just incase i goof?

i'd happily pay the $5 for this, good choice? -Phobya CPU and GPU Cleaning Kit

this is whats available for thermal compound - thermal compound @ pccg
