H70 v V8 4ghz i7 cooler

So i want to overclock my i7 950 to 4ghz, no ways its going near there on this stock cooler without it fusing to my motherboard =p so my question is, what is a good cooler. I have a Coolermaster Storm Scout case so size does matter. From what i gather the h70 is good and so is the coolermaster v8. Im not after a nhd14 as it would look stupid and there isnt enough room. any advice?

On to the coolers, so I'm assuming the dislike the Noctua colour scheme. Well first off, don't get the H70, it's overpriced and excessively loud. The V8 according to Tom isn't all that great either. I would probably go for the Scythe Mugen 2, Thermalright Venomous X Black or the ProlimaTech Armageddon. The later 2 require you to buy fans as well. :\

Noctua C14 if you don't mind the colours, something you should realize, that unless you are shining a white light at the Noctua fans they won't be able to make out their espresso colour scheme (Yes that's what Noctua reminds me of). The red lighting within the case would make it appear red and black with a slight hue of red I would think.

The Coolermaster V8 isn't bad at all as i have tested it on my i7 860 and it cools pretty good !

Of course the Noctua D14 beats it (reason i have 2 of them) but its not like its by 20c

Noctua NH-D14 without a doubt. Going with anything else would be a disservice to yourself and to your wallet. so what if the fans have an ugly color? Do you care more about your temps or how good your rig looks? If it was the later, why would you go with a heatsink in the first place?

And where did you get that it wouldn't fit?

Ok so it seems the nh-d14 is the way, I cba to dissasemble and paint it. Would replacing the fans with red led 140mm and 120mm fans be an option or will I break the universe and screw up the cooling. And thanks for the picture I honestly didn't think it would fit

should be good.

I dont know if you can interchange fans but I do know noctua fans are designed for pushing massive amounts of air while staying very quiet so you might upset that. Looking back to your original post talking about the H70, a new H60 model will be released soon however nothing is know about its performance so maybe its worth waiting. Goodluck!

They aren't designed to push massive amounts of air, but be able to push air through things such as heatsinks and radiators. So if you look at the stats they do have average CFM, but they have incredible static pressure. So Noctua fans are designed for use with heatsinks and radiators. Or through filters at that matter.

i think the fans play a part in the performance of that cooler, dont change the fans they are the best on the market fella.

That's true, however, aside from the NF-P14 and NF-P12, I always thought fans like the NF-S12B where best used as exhaust fans and not on heat sinks?
