H100i pump noise

So, I've decided to have a go with the H100i I've had lying around for a bit.

Never used one of the Corsair ones properly before (I have a CM Seidon 240 too), but I'm a little disappointed with the noise from the pump. It doesn't make any grinding noises like some people have pointed out but it is significantly the loudest thing in my PC, and also a lot louder than the near silent CM Seidon pump unit.

I don't believe this requires an RMA, as it is running fine, but it is considerably louder than I was expecting. Does anyone have any experience with this?

It's been running for a couple of days now so I think it should have had enough time to burn in and get any possible air bubbles out of the pump unit, so I don't think that's the problem.

Have any of you tried reducing the voltage of the pump unit? I'm thinking of rewiring a molex to SATA converter to give 7v instead of the full 12v, but not sure if this would help.

My H60 makes a shitload of noise on every cold boot, i have to tap the pump for a while, i guess it's airbubbles. i don't know the level of noise you are talking about, but i think you know the noise of an airbubble in the pump. After the tapping the noise abruptly disappears and from then on it's nearly silent. I guess the H100i uses the same pump? if yes, RMA.
 
Had the same problem with 2 H80s. Both times Corsair recommended an RMA, however they wouldn't pay for the postage so they wanted me to spend £20 to send it to the Netherlands. Completely put me off the hydro series and disappointed me massively as I really like other corsair products I've used.
 
Hmm, I may try and get an RMA settled with the retailer. Spending that much money on sending a product back to Corsair is ridiculous really, and they need to sort that out.

They can't give specific instructions saying return the product directly to Corsair rather than the retailer, and then expect you to pay obscene amounts of shipping for international postage...

never gave a damn about what corsair said about RMAs, i always sent it back to the vendor. They always pay for postage and i get a replacement within a week.

Oh yea I forgot to mention I sent both of mine back to Amazon as they will actually support the consumer and pay for the return and replacement postage.
 
Amazon did yea, that is what I did with the second one. I got a full refund and bought my NH-D14 instead. Their turnaround was really quick too, each time I had my new product within 2 days.
 
Majority of the reports that we get regarding pump noise are typically caused by air trapped in the loop. You can try laying the case flat on its back while the system is running and while laying flat you can gently tap the pump to let it bleed out. Usually happens in the first couple days of initial use, but after a while it goes away.

For future reference, If you are dealing with multiple replacements with the same product, we'll be able to work out shipping expenses for you. I'm just not sure why this was not done to you in your case.

I have tried this now to no avail.

I do see myself as very sensitive to noise, and so it's most likely in perfect working order, but just me expecting more really.

I think I'm going to try toning it down to 7v and seeing if that makes a difference. If not, I'll just go back to a D14 or other air cooler.

For future reference, If you are dealing with multiple replacements with the same product, we'll be able to work out shipping expenses for you. I'm just not sure why this was not done to you in your case.

you got an explanation for that happening at every cold boot?
 
Not sure about pump noise, however mine makes the occasional gurgling noise - Presumably bubbles in the loop...

it's coming from the pump, is really loud and usually disappears by tapping it a few times. when i then tap it again the sound comes back. it's a consistent sound, can't really say it has a pattern. sounds a bit like a motorboat.

Is the pump firmware up to date?

If its gurgling it just air, it will eventually settle but you can help it along by moving the rad about.

it's an h60, no firmware.
it started last winter, no particular cause. it's weird because air bubbles should settle, but this keeps reoccuring.
