Right due to delays with the GT72 machine I wanted I was given time to change my mind and well that's always dangerous. That project has been cancelled

However this one now lives once more! I got a new partner to the machine:

An Asus ROG swift 1440p 144hz monitor, which is very lovely. However yes this is nice and all but is boring compared to a new machine, so to spice things up there is also a pair of these on the way:

Should keep things nicely ticking over. I'll have to investigate a vmod for the memory and getting an unlocked bios but even at stock they will blow the 780M cards running at max out the water.

Step 2 of modding has commenced:

As you can see for efficiency at regular loads only 3 MOSFETs have been included instead of the full 6.

As you can see efficiency starts to drop off as they get more heavily loaded, I think this is causing my cards to shut off when I push them up to 1450mhz at 1.175V on the core and 1500Mhz and 1.6v (I think) on the mem.

The card is currently being sent off for the chips to be soldered on properly, it should be interesting to test them when I get them back

My first thought when I saw this thread in 'Recent Threads' was "Meaker is back!" and not gonna lie I got a little excited!

Weird to see my desktop being out-performed by a laptop, but that definitely makes it a really cool laptop

It's really weird, it seems to be getting in the way of my memory over volt, I can't get up to 1600mhz any more :S But 1500mhz works and I don't get any shut off issues at 1.2V so it is doing the job I hoped it would.

Awesome results! Any pics of the card with the additional 3 chips soldered on? Out of curiosity, what does it cost to do something like that?

About £100 after getting the chips from digikey, shipping it off to the BGA soldering shop and paying for work/shipping them back.

I think they did a good job

As you can see, double checking the PCB markings and triple checking with the multimeter to find the correct orientation was a good idea

Yeah it definitely was with how those chips are oriented. I can't stress enough how cool this is. You can't even tell it's modded. They did a good job indeed.
