GTX680 block, 2 months old, all ready stuffed?

All right, so with all these comments. Will contact EK now and then post here what they have to say for themselves :)

when i opened this thread, and saw the pictures, before reading, i knew that was
gunna be a EK thing. and that is why i do not use EK anything... copper or EN,
fearful of retribution not my thing... i wish Bitspower, Alphacool, Koolance, XSPC,
Watercool and others could bit into this pie more aggressively... there are peeps
jumping outta that ship fast..

EN means nickel plated, right?
Seams like something acts with it and i doubt it would help to clean it as plateing is cone and "metal" is left(looks to me so).
So if you get new one, you should find reason for it firsth and then install it back. Because i belive it would look exacly same in time.

EN means Electroless Nickel plated, thats what the problem is.

I believe EK had a problem with corrosion of their nickel plated blocks and were investigating this. Had a look on the internet and found this:

http://www.ekwb.com/news/83/19/

To quote from that linked page: "To get the RMA product replacement you will need to follow these steps:
1. Fill in RMA form
2. Make pictures of the block (front, back and corrosion close-up)
3. Send RMA form, scan of original invoice and 3 pictures for each block to EK support e-mail.
4. We will then inform you where to ship the damaged block(s).
5. EK support will inform you from where your replacement block will be shipped to you (in most cases it will be shipped from the location where you bought it)
6. The customer should arrange shipment to EK or EK reseller with Economy shipping option. Express shipping is not requested. EK will pay the shipping costs based on receipt scan sent to support e-mail with RMA # in paypal payment, or credit in EK Web shop. (updated on June 14th)
7. Customer will get the block replaced and cannot ask for a credit note nor replacement for another product. Only thing that we allow is that customer can chose to replace the product for non-Nickel-Plated block – copper version."

What other metals are in your system? If you have one copper block, one EN block and then another block this will definitely happen.

You should always keep the same metals in your loop otherwise science will prevail.

On the other hand if you have got all the same metals, then this is a bit shoddy!

I have a Nickel plated CPU block, and this is Nickel plated too...

RESPONSE FROM EK.

Dear Mr. Phil,

thank you for contacting us.

We are sorry for the problem you epxressed but that is not a corrosion, but rather some filth, residue or crud from the loop.
You should use some car polish and non abrasive cloth to remove that.
I am certain it will go away.

I'm no professional but that doesn't look like simple grime and crud to me. That looks like the nickle has come off the copper in parts. I mean look at the rainbow effect you're getting near the centre then compare that with the copper colour to the bottom right area.

In any event, I'd say do what they say try cleaning it and take pictures at every step to document this. I think after you clean it you will see more clearly where the nickle is gone and be in a better position with them to get an RMA.

Ask why everything but those two are pristine clean then? o.o

This. I would have also provided pics of the CPU block, loop, tubing inside etc, as it looks fine. Its been a big problem with their EN process on their GPU blocks before, Id never risk an EK block after seeing all these issues, Alphacool FTW!

I would be careful about polishing it. That in no way looks like staining, the Nickel is coming off. There is a possibility they are trying to get you to try and polish away the nickel so that they can blame you for it coming off because you polished too hard or something. Send them pics of the rest of your loop like suggested and ask why their product has somehow been selectively stained.

Thanks, I will take a HEAP of photos through the whole process, and will not scrub it too hard.

I will resend them images of my other block, which is in pristine condition. Which means the 680 block is obviously at fault
