GTX 680 Folding

Support is finally here (sort of)! Using the GPUs.txt file the v7 client properly detects a GK104. You also have to use the client-type beta flag in the client. It will fold now, but not with a kepler optimized WU. I'm sitting at about 19k PPD after 30 minutes of folding. I'll see how it continues through the night.

Bring on the better WUs!!

Been waiting for some numbers, glad you can finally fold and give us some feedback...how does 19k on the 680 compare to a fully supported 580?

A 580 gets around 25k IIRC.

Edit: Should add too, that the card is silent while folding. My Twin Frzr III 560Ti is much much louder while folding.

I really hope they get the performance sorted 100% so it shuts all the negative gits up saying the card was never meant to be a folder

You and me both. I'd love to see 30k PPD. At least it can fold beta WUs now so it's not sitting completely dormant.

not bad pdd even though the 680 is not proper supported yet

. What kind of temps are you getting with the stock cooler?

Without touching the fan speed, it was sitting at 78C. The fan speed is on auto and has barely gone up. I might manually set it higher just to keep things cooler, but not worried ATM.

19K seems very good so far given the lack of support. My 580 does about 25k with the good WU's. It's on 16k right now with the 7000 point WU's.

First you need to do download the GPUs.txt file and put it in the proper directory:

http://folding.typepad.com/news/201...gpus-such-as-kepler-in-the-v7-fah-client.html

After that you need to go into the v7 client, configure, pick the gpu, go to advanced and add client-type beta to your flags. You should delete any work for the GPU the v7 may have downloaded previously. Lastly, close and restart the v7 client.

When it starts up the 680 should be seen properly (Kepler GK104) and it should download a WU and start folding.

If you have 2x GTX680 in SLI do you fold on them individually or together?

I have just started a (completely unnecessary) upgrade and thought maybe I should start folding on the new machine as a way to justify it lol.

Do you think this will work for GTX670 or will I have to wait a while until it is supported?

I would guess it would work because it's the same kelper chip on the board. It's certainly worth a try.

I havn't had a look at the GPU.txt but maybe you will need to add the card in manually if at all possible. Copying the line for the 680 and just altering it to 670 ?

Got my new EVGA GTX 670 SC folding with these instructions.

It shows up as a GTX 680 but I got it working. The GPUs.txt file had the GTX 670, 680, and 690 in the file but the text is wrong.

Made the following changes:

0x10de:0x1180:3:1:GF104 [Kepler GTX 680]

0x10de:0x1188:3:1:GK104 [Kepler GTX 690]

0x10de:0x1189:3:1:GK104 [Kepler GTX 670]

Well my GTX670 is folding very nicely indeed. Getting an estimated 18500 PPD :D
So yeah i'd say Kepler folding is working properly now

That's great to hear matey
BTW i saw a thread that with a GTX680(GTX670) you can let it act as if it is a 2x GPU and get 45000PPD

I couldn't find a GTX670 so i got this one,
