GTX 680 Folding

Ray, I get usually 19.5k to 20k PPD on my 680. Been this way since it started working. I'm not sure if Stanford is still working on those infamous "kepler optimized" WUs or if this is the best we can expect.

Let me know how it works out for you.

I recently read about Kepler at stanford, seems they are still working with Nvidia to get this going. The only thing available for the "new" stuff is thru the beta team, therefore almost no info is available. AFIK everything else is still status quo....

ATM I'd stay with a 5 series card if it's going to be for F@H only....

First you need to do download the GPUs.txt file and put it in the proper directory:

http://folding.typepad.com/news/201...gpus-such-as-kepler-in-the-v7-fah-client.html

After that you need to go into the v7 client, configure, pick the gpu, go to advanced and add client-type beta to your flags. You should delete any work for the GPU the v7 may have downloaded previously. Lastly, close and restart the v7 client.

When it starts up the 680 should be seen properly (Kepler GK104) and it should download a WU and start folding.
I must be thick but could you show me that directory where i should paste the GPUtxt

Go to start, all programs, fahclient, then click the Data Directory link. IIRC you put the file in there.

You're clicking the shortcut in the start menu right? It opens up the folder. You should see other folders within it like "work". You're not trying to paste directly to the start menu are you?

This is what i am doing,

Weird, you should be able to then copy/paste the .txt file right under sample-config. Do you have the correct permissions for that directory? Try exiting completely out of FAH before you open up that folder.

Yeah when i did this to enable folding on my 670 i had to quit the FAH client completely in order to put the .txt file in the directory

I am going nuts
it needs to be paste right in that directory ?

so not that sample config file ?

Leave all the files there, you just need to paste GPUs.txt into that same directory as your work folder.

hmmblah have you tried that with the 2x GPU thingy,
quote from another forum,

BTW: The GTX 680 can work as two GPUs if you add it as gpu-index 0 and 1 it's running as gf:114 and gk:104 at 37-45k PPD

:o:cool: If this is true , i thought i already mentioned it ones.......
but i can't try it yet , i hope to have something working later this day.........

LOL here i am again ,
was there also some kind of issue trying to Fold on a GTX460 ,

that gets his PPD cut in half right next to a GTX680 ,
which is NOT Folding at all

Thanks for the reading guys, darn it.. am i beeing annoying in here :nopity:
when i get it to work i'll buy a second one(GTX680).. if that solves the PPD problem

I never tried that, but I thought it was not really true anyway...I don't remember but I thought it was just reporting incorrectly? I might have to research this again.

Mixed series cards never seemed to work right for me. I know a 550 and a 9600GSO folding together in the same machine results in lower PPD than the 550 folding by itself.

how are things loking with your 680? you getting good numbers from it?
  • Yes my numbers are 0
We need a update on WU's (and client software) related to this GPU ,
still NO official support to it :(

so with a edit you get 20000K PPD same as a GTX580 :(

Ok I have v7 client downloaded and the GPUs.txt put in the correct dir but I am getting stuck on where to change the flags. I am not seeing it in the advanced tab under config?
