GTX 580 SLI

I have a doubt regarding SLI.

I own a EVGA GTX 580 stock version and a friend of mine is selling the MSI GTX 580 OC edition for a sweet price.

Can I SLI the two? or do they have to be from same make , same bios , clock speeds etc etc.

Yes I have the maximus iv gene z and Seasonic X-850

The cards are pretty close to eachother on that m-atx board. It will work if both are reference but if the oc version has different cooler you might not have enough room for it. Ask him if you can try it before you buy it.

All you need is the same physical gpu, so as azurite said it only depends on how much room and power you have

I belive in Nvidia SLI you need same physical chip, bios and i think shaders and rops etc. in order to sli brands and custom coolers/pcbs dont matter too much

As above you can sli them, but I believe that the faster card will default to the slower cards clock frequency.

you can definatly SLI those 2 np

id put your stock cooler in the bottom slot cos those MSI ones kick alot of heat out into the case as apposed to the exhaust. this way they will both be taking in cooler air and your msi card is better at dealing with cooling in the tighter space than the reference one

wow just looked up maximus iv gene z sli on google and wow that is tight....hope you got a side fan you'll need it
